The real Alexey Leonov was still alive and helped with the details and realism. The movie is "in memory of Pavel Belyaev", dead long before the movie release.
Leonov references going the Moon many times in the film. This is perhaps a reference to the fact that, had it not for the head of the Soviet space program Sergei Korolev's untimely death in 1966, Leonov was the man they were considering to send to the Moon.
