"The Ballad of Gilligan's Island," in case it needs repeating, is the single best TV theme song of all time. In addition to explicitly explaining the premise of the classic show, "Ballad" introduces every single one of its seven main characters by name. It also helps that it's one of the most insidious earworms this side of "Yellow Submarine"; once you get "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" stuck in your head, it will never leave. Your mind will be as lost as the Minnow.
In the original pilot episode for "Gilligan's Island," back before the final cast had been selected, the theme song was a calypso number composed by John Williams. That song, however, wasn't exactly what show creator Sherwood Schwartz wanted, so he and songwriter George Wyle wrote a second, better theme.. His and Schwartz's "Ballad" was written as a sea shanty, and no one can hear its...

For many years, fans of "Gilligan's Island" heard the rumors that actress Tina Louise, who played the glamorous movie star Ginger on the series, openly hated the show. These rumors were founded mostly on the fact that Louise, after "Gilligan's Island" went off the air in 1967, refused to reunite with her old co-stars for any of the follow-up TV movies or animated spinoffs. Everyone else returned for those projects, but Louise stayed far away.
Additionally, stories from the set detailed a strained working relationship between Louise and star Bob Denver. Some might know the story about how Louise signed a contract allowing her to be listed last in the credits, forcing the writers of the "Gilligan's Island" theme song to refer to the Professor and Mary Ann as "and the rest!" It wouldn't be until Bob Denver pulled rank and theatened to put his own starring credit last that Louise...

Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines or hurling tomatoes from the bleachers, it’s all too easy to think you know every inch of a celebrity’s life. Thanks to their ever-present spotlight! Yet, these stars do juggle private milestones and struggles. Take Amber Heard, for example.
Love her or leave her, many fans (and haters) assume they know every little detail about the actress just because of her shining roles in box office hits like Aquaman and Pineapple Express, not to mention her high-profile romances. But let’s be real: her life isn’t always a glamorous reel of adventures or tabloid fodder.

Actress Dawn Wells passed away in 2020 at the age of 82, having experienced a prolific career in TV and on film. In the early 1960s, Wells appeared on hot TV shows like "Wagon Train," "Maverick," and "77 Sunset Strip" in various supporting roles, and her career boomed in 1964 when she was hired to play the friendly hayseed Mary Ann on Sherwood Schwartz's mega-hit "Gilligan's Island." While "Gilligan's Island" was derided at the time for its silliness and broad, cartoony tone, it was still a huge hit, and the seven lead actors all became household names. Indeed, "Gilligan's Island" became so popular that several of its stars had trouble shaking off their association with the show.
After the series ended, Wells continued to work on hit shows like "Bonanza," and she appeared in notable horror movies like "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" and "Return to Boggy Creek," but many of her...

TV trivia fanatics will happily point out that the first-season theme song to Sherwood Schwartz's seminal sitcom "Gilligan's Island" is different from the theme heard in later seasons. The song is the same -- it's the usual, earworm sea shanty that everyone can sing from memory -- but the final listing of the show's dramatis personae is different. In the later seasons, the theme song listed Gilligan (Bob Denver), the Skipper too (Alan Hale), the Millionaire (Jim Backus) and his wife (Natalie Shafer), the movie star (Tina Louise), the professor (Russell Watson) and Mary Ann (Dawn Wells), there on Gilligan's isle.
In the first season, however, the professor and Mary-Ann were introduced merely as "And the rest." Watson and Wells didn't have credits and photos like everyone else. This was a little baffling, as all seven characters were of equal value to the series; no one was a supporting player.

Were one to go into “All the Light We Cannot See” totally cold — drawn to the four-part limited series, say, purely by its placement atop Netflix’s home page — it would be impossible to discern that it was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel celebrated for its lyricism and profundity.
The dialogue here is pedestrian. The lead character, blind French teenager Marie-Laure LeBlanc (screen newcomer Aria Mia Loberti), escapes the German invasion of Paris in World War II with her father, Daniel (Mark Ruffalo). They seek refuge in the French port city of Saint-Malo. Yet throughout the journey, and the limited series, our Gallic heroine and Papa LeBlanc speak English with British accents.
The series’ wartime visuals are dark and obviously CG-enhanced. More practical effects include perfectly contained fires placed in strategic spots to indicate — along with James Newton Howard’s overwrought score — that a neighborhood has been bombed.

During one of the many flashbacks in “All the Light We Cannot See,” Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti) sits with her great-uncle, Etienne (Hugh Laurie), as the aging Frenchman casts a line into the English Channel. Their fishing expedition is both a ploy and, well, a fishing expedition: They’re trawling for intelligence, not dinner, as Etienne describes the new boats docked nearby to his blind grandniece, who dutifully writes down whatever she’s told. Later, their reports will be shared with the Allies over the radio, but only if their cover, the fishing pole, masks their more critical tool: the typewriter. Nazi troops have taken over the small French town of Saint-Malo, and a cadre of Germans soon stumble upon their two-person operation. As an inquisitive officer demands answers from Marie, Etienne reaches into his tackle box for a makeshift weapon. If they don’t buy her story, he knows what must be done.

The premise of Soviet filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky's magnum opus, "Stalker," seems deceptively simple. The titular stalker (Alexander Kaidanovsky) must guide two men, The Writer (Anatoly Solonitsyn) and The Professor (Nikolai Grinko), to and from The Zone, a mystical no man's land whose ruins remain shrouded in secrecy. Men who venture into The Zone have never returned, with the exception of the Stalker, who has made this dangerous foray into the unknown his sole source of income. The aim is to guide passengers to The Room, a space within the Zone that can make anyone's wishes come true. But do we know what we truly desire? What if our deepest urges betray our perception of who we think we are? This is one of many, many questions "Stalker" seems to pose.
What Tarkovsky manages to do with "Stalker" is astounding — he invests a rather straightforward premise with layers of thematic...

Whigham spoke remotely via video from Los Angeles, and said in 2017 Depp had a very busy filming schedule. That year the actor worked on “City of Lies,” “Murder on the Orient Express,” “Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald,” and independent film “The Professor,” earning him 35 million.
Whigham, who described himself as an attorney and manager, said he also negotiated Depp’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” 6 deal in 2017, which totaled 22.5 million. But in 2019, it became clear that Disney had decided to “go in a different direction.”
In 2018, Depp filmed “Waiting for the Barbarians” for 1 million. In 2019, Whigham negotiated a 3 million deal for Depp to film “Minimata.” Whigham told the court the movie was supposed to start filming in January.

It's been more than two years, but now that Claws has finally returned, Desna and her crew remain up to their fancy nails in trouble.
And Desna undertook her most recent scheme without a valuable team member on Claws Season 4 Episode 1 and Claws Season 4 Episode 2.
There remained a severe rift between Desna and Quiet Ann, with the rest of the crew caught in the middle.
Quiet Ann blamed Desna's ambition for Ann's wife Arlene being killed by The Professor on Claws Season 3 Episode 8.
Desna considered Ann ungrateful after all she had done for the ex-con lesbian, especially after Ann torched Desna's casino on Claws Season 3 Episode 10.
So who is more wrong in this situation? As these episodes begin to show, it's going to be Desna.
Sure, Ann, in the middle of numerous criminal enterprises, should never have allowed herself to fall for a cop. But she did, which played...

Money Heist's Ursula Corbero and Miguel Herran Talk Tokyo's Terrible Death, Preview How Rio Moves On
Fans who are still mourning Tokyo’s heartbreaking death on Netflix’s hit caper Money Heist should take comfort: Ursula Corbero, who brought the character to life for five seasons, said she grieved the loss for the better part of a month.
“I cried nonstop for three, almost four weeks,” Corbero told fans and journalists at a recent press event in Madrid celebrating the final episodes of Money Heist, aka La Casa de Papel. “I experienced so many emotions: nostalgia, sadness, anger. When we shot in Lisbon, I felt melancholy because we were finally telling Tokyo’s backstory. But Tokyo...

Diego Ávalos, Netflix’s VP of original content in Spain, distinctly remembers the encounter that led to his company licensing what would become its most watched non-English-language series, Spanish drama “Money Heist” (“La Casa de Papel”).
The executive’s first in-person meeting with series creator Álex Pina was a dizzying, fateful whirlwind. “He was rushing through this hotel, and he ran up to me and threw a pen drive in my hand and said, ‘You have to watch this — it’s my new show,’ and then he rushed off just as quickly.”
After the frantic rendezvous, Ávalos boarded a plane to Los Angeles and popped the drive into his laptop. When his feet hit the ground in California, he knew his next Spanish acquisition had to be “Money Heist.”

Exclusive: Rosemarie DeWitt is set to star alongside Toni Collette and Colin Firth in The Staircase, HBO Max’s drama limited series adaptation based on the true-crime docuseries.
The eight-episode series from Antonio Campos, who directed the Rebecca Hall-fronted feature Christine, and American Crime Story writer Maggie Cohn, explores the life of Michael Peterson (Firth), his sprawling North Carolina family and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen (Collette).
DeWitt will play Candace Zamperini, Kathleen Peterson’s sister.
The series is based on the docuseries and various books and reports on the case. Michael Peterson was convicted of murdering Kathleen in 2001, a charge that was reduced to manslaughter in 2017, and Peterson subsequently was released from prison. He had claimed his wife died after falling down the stairs at their home after consuming alcohol and Valium, but an autopsy concluded she died from multiple injuries, including blows to the back...

Mel Gibson and Sean Penn are both actors that tend to divide opinion among movie fans, but with two Academy Awards each, you can’t deny that they’re among the finest talents of their generation, regardless of how you feel about their personal beliefs or opinions. So throw them together in a prestige drama about the creation of the dictionary and you’ve got… well, you’ve got something that will interest some people a lot more than others.
The Professor and the Madman is a biographical period drama that stars Gibson as the former and Penn as the latter, which is admittedly simplifying things an awful lot. The Lethal Weapon star plays Professor James Murray, who undergoes the arduous task of compiling the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary in the 1870s. Gathering up the definition for every word in existence is no easy task, but one helpful fellow submits over 10,000 entries,...

I guess it is true; two can keep a secret if one of them is dead. Unfortunately for Pll: The Perfectionists, Freeform killed it to keep the secret of the identity of The Professor all to themselves.
It's official: Pll: The Perfectionists is deceased.
After just one season, Freeform has decided to cut the cord on the Pretty Little Liars spin-off.
Pll: The Perfectionists was rolled out as a spin-off to the mega-hit Pretty Little Liars.
The series was loosely based off the book series The Perfectionists by Sara Shepard, the author who is also behind the Pretty Little Liars book series.
The Perfectionists book series had nothing to do with the Pretty Little Liars series, but Freeform thought it would find greater success by hitching it to the Pretty Little Liars bandwagon.
Unforunately, that may have been it's greatest hinderence.

Things just got deadly at the Bayside Retreat Hotel and Casino.
Desna's only legal way out of the mess she and her crew have gotten into disappeared on Claws Season 3 Episode 7.
One obvious development finally happened.
To order to bolster her brother Henry, who threatened to drop out of the governor's race against Patel, Ann told him everything she knew about Patel's illegal activities, right in front of Arlene.
Unfortunately, this choice put everyone remotely connected to the casino, which was pretty much everyone, at risk.
So when Patel exposed Henry as being gay at the debate, Henry unloaded what he knew about Patel's bribe money being laundered at the casino.
I don't know why Ann and Arlene both seemed surprised that Henry would use the intel she gave him.
He was a politician trailing in a race badly in need of changing the narrative. Of course, he told. It was to his advantage.

For decades, Italy’s box office has suffered the summertime blues due to a scarcity of blockbusters from the Hollywood studios, which noted that Italian audiences were more interested in going to the beach than a movie theater. However, that is changing.
The Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, which runs June 13-16 and is Italy’s single start of summer event, is perfectly positioned to become a prime driver for this crucial seasonal push.
“I’ve been saying for years that summer festivals should promote summer releases,” says Tiziana Rocca, who launched the fest on the island of Sardinia in Italy last year.
Italy’s push for summer releases is the result of a joint effort between the studios and all sectors of Italy’s film industry, largely prompted by the government that recently got all sides to sit at the table and agree to remove this anomaly that was causing...

Having premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival way back in 2016, it has been a long road for Katie Says Goodbye. The movie spent part of 2016 and almost all of 2017 on the festival circuit, before opening internationally last year in certain places. Now, here in 2019, it finally gets a release, coming after writer/director Wayne Roberts’ subsequent film The Professor has already come and gone last month. Is this flick any better? Well, no, not really. There’s a really great performance at the center from Olivia Cooke, but it’s surrounded by one of the most miserable experiences you can imagine. A movie is a character study, one mired in pain and largely unnecessary suffering. Set in an unnamed part of the American Southwest, one somewhat lost in time, Katie (Cooke) is a seventeen year old making her way as best she can. A waitress in a diner run...

If you thought the time for answers had come, Pll: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 10 proved you wrong.
Related: Pll: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 9 Review: Lie Together, Die Together
The Pll: The Perfectionists Season 1 finale was essentially just a setup for a second season, rather than a closure to the current one.
As we had grown to suspect over the past couple episodes, Jeremy wasn't Nolan's killer. He was a pawn put into play by the spinoff's version of "A."
Yup, say hello to "The Professor."
Mona: Who are you?
The Professor: I'm the person who killed Nolan. Jeremy was guilty of many things, but he was not a killer.
Permalink: I'm the person who killed Nolan. Added: May 22, 2019
It was a bit obvious that the liars weren't actually being called to join a secret society. Mona isn't even a student, and it was too convenient that they would all receive a letter.
