A decent 1st episode of a new series which shows the potential to be a light & very funny comedy.
I expected nothing from this series, and i was about to drop the first episode within the first 5 mins, because the jokes were really lame and, well, it didnt look great at all. But then some weird stuff happens and the father showing up were actually really funny, especially the father in general, who saved the first episode for me and made sure that I will continue on this one.
This show turned out to be more charming than expected, and during the second half of the very first episode I laughed more than in an entire HIMYM season.
I dont think, that any current sitcoms got that big of a potential than this series, so if u dont compare it to Friends or King of Queens and also be a little bit open minded, you might be able to actually enjoy it.
This series really tries hard to get you into the chill atmosphere of a good family, and they got me in the end with that adorable situation, who made all main characters really sympathetic.
I feel like most of the people generally dont like any sitcoms except the classics, so dont mind those one star rates.

I'm not sure about positive reviews the I see here? Is CBS planting their own glowing reports or something? This is just another tired comedy with a little a little twist of stale lemon .Please don't take my word for it, waste your own 30 minutes. I'm outie....
It's never going to be a "Friends", but we laugh a lot through every episode.
I'm surprised at the terrible ratings, maybe some just don't get it. Hope it hangs around at least to the wedding. Give it a chance.

First episode was not that good, but after that it's great! Fam may not be the funniest show on air but characters are so charming and interesting. There are some funny jokes and moments that I personally really liked. I loveeee Tone Bell and Nina Dobrev. Their chemistry is amazing. Also I'm a big fan of Gary Cole. If u want to relax and laugh after a long day this is the show for you. Promo for next week ep looks even more promising. Sorry for bad english

Like many others, I tuned in to this show because I'm a Nina Dobrev fan. First couple of episodes I thought ... sorry Nina but comedy just isn't for you. But both she and the show has gotten much better several episodes in, so we'll see if it survives. Really tough audiences to please these days myself included. Some actors can make the switch to comedy & some need a little time to get it down. Nina falls into the second category. As a fan I'm willing to give her some time.

Giving this show three stars is being charitable. On paper this show looked like it could've been watchable (big fan of Sheryy Lee Ralph), but the messaging and the canned laughter made it horrible to watch and the little sister's sniveling and sarcastic character only made it worse. I wouldn't get this show's only season dvd to use it as a coaster.

Finally caught up with this and it's well written and well acted. Lots of laugh out loud moments and some really funny twists too. It's shot in a nice way and just lots of fun. I would recommend go seeing it online and just sitting back with a drink and having a laugh. A chuckle or a big old guffaw.
Really hope there's more as only just discovered it and it was a nice way to spend some time.
Lots of talented actors in this too and some really good locations to while away the time. Very enjoyable.
Thanks for the opportunity to review am new to this and hope this helps someone else to find a show to watch.

The chemistry amongst the cast members is just so amazing, Gary Cole is the perfect fit for the role of Freddy, looking forward for the next episode.

It will not win any awards, but I find it a nice break from reality.

It took approximately 5 seconds from the pilot episode starting and then that god awful "CANNED hah hah hah LAUGHTER" kicked in and I just knew this new comedy series would be a waste of time.
Within the first five (5) minutes of the pilot episode two lame jokes were attempted, one being referred to was a sarcastic misunderstanding of the acronymn STD's , and the other so-called joke stated "why would you want to bring some pot roast home when there is no pot?" Really??? No, I mean really??? At this point (10 minutes in to the pilot episode) I just had to look up who the (HORROR-able) writer of this series was credited and it is a lady named Corinne Kingsbury.
Funny,..... I never heard of Corinne Kingsbury before and her name may never be credited again as I am sure this new series will be quickly pulled before very long unless there are very deep pockets promoting this garbage. This FAMily is by no means memorable, nor is it funny. If I was sitting in an Emergency Hospital room waiting for my wife to be taken into surgery and this show was playing on the boob tube in the overhead TV in the hospital waiting room I would beg the nurses to please take me instead of my wife for surgery or TURN OFF that god awful non stop canned laughter eminating from Fam.
A paltry 3 out of 10 rating. ....and I actually like the actor(s) dad Gary Cole and the daughter Nina Dobrev, but please don't insult your "required" audience with this garbage.

Do what Mom did and rework the show with more funny cast members. More Gary Cole and the younger daughter to make a show like Married with Children. Even though it would would have to be toned way down so it wouldn't offend the baby's in this politically correct world.

I've found the show to be funny and a good laugh. Is it trying to be more? I don't think so. Is it something I'd recommend someone to watch, probably not. Do I hate it? No.
As the episodes progress, you do begin to like the characters more but that's about it, there's nothing here that's special.

EDITED : the last 3 episodes were indeed better, as the casts involved were broader, I think they should broaden up the plot, showing CLEM at work, interaction with other people, etc.....if there is season 2, I think they will do that...
At first I didn't think much of the theme, it seemed a bit cliché...but I got to watch the first episode and I found myself liking it, Nina was great enough despite her first time being on Sitcom ( better than I expected her to be as this was all new to her)..the rest of the cast particularly Odessa was great too...Gary Coles suits the role real well..!!! the second episodes even better....new series need time to develop and audience need time to embrace the character I believe...as I am getting to like it even more now.

Clem (Nina Dobrev) is estranged from her police detective father Freddy (Gary Cole). She's marrying Nick (Tone Bell) and eager to have a new family with his parents (Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sheryl Lee Ralph). She even lies to them about her father being dead. All her plans go up in smoke when her 16 year old half-sister Shannon (Odessa Adlon) decides to leave home and live with her.
This is a pretty standard network dysfunctional family sitcom. I have never been convinced of Dobrev's acting ability and I still am not. It's especially true with her as a comedic actress. I think she's fine as a straight man. The little sister becomes the more comedic character. The show starts badly but it's able to slowly improve over time. By the end, the show is watchable as far as network sitcoms go. It's canceled after one season anyways although the show seems to have held up well to the finish line.

This is not the series to follow MOM., a funny show. This mess has literally no substance and tries too hard to be believable. The writing is sophomoric babble. Even Gary Cole ,who tries hard to uplift this from the doldrums of manipulated sound stage laughter, can't save this one. The teenage sister also earns a few laughs. Don't waste your time.

This show was very cute and funny. I LOVE GARY COLE. He is perfect in this role.
And it was a nice surprise to see Sheryl Lee Ralph. And boy has she aged very well.
Looking forward to many episodes. I just hope CBS doesn't cancel.

I wasn't sure about FAM, I watched the trailer and thought it was decent. I decided to give it a chance and watch the 1st epi. It wasn't bad but was it was great either. A few minor one liners are made about controversial topics i.e. dysfunctional families, drug users etc, but watching the show you can't take it seriously because it is a comedy and they do make light of it. So if you're sensitive to these subjects be aware. As for the actors, Tone & Odessa are really good! I've been a fan of Nina for years from watching her on TVD and although I think she's a great actress, for this I don't think comedy is her strong suit. I'll continue to watch S1 and see if it gets better because there is potential, but if not S1 is the end for me.

Nina Dobrev has no comedic timing and her delivery is stale. The sister is better but she comes off as so sarcastic that it makes her unlikable. Come on CBS - your audience deserves better.

I ENJOY THIS TV SHOW..IT STARTED OFF SLOW BUT NOW IT SEEMS THE SHOW IS GETTING MORE CREATIVE AND THE PUNCHLINES ARE MORE ON QUE..HOPEFULLY THEY WILL CONTINUE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND CBS WILL GIVE THEM ANOTHER SEASON.
Of course it's not a 10 stars show, but also it is not 1. There are several characters and it is crusial that they are well picked and tested beforehand. Nina Dobrev is spot on but the guy playing the fiance ... I just don't see and feel it. The sister is OK, the dad also.
A will give it a fair 6 but bacause of Nina - 7 ;)

I really wanted this show to work. I wanted there to be solid material that made me laugh. The actors are great, but the writing just isn't doing it for me. The younger sister Shannon is definitely annoying. Shannon is able to crack ATM and WiFi passwords but can't work a microwave or dishwasher? Really? The sisters have a dad that works as a cop/detective but has to gamble to pay his bills? I really hate to say it, but the script is poorly written. I prefer to watch something funny and relatable, or least believable. Don't give us a tech genius that can't work a microwave or a dishwasher.
