Because filming in New York City, especially Manhattan, is incredibly expensive. Between paying for locations, insuring the production, obtaining the required permits to film in NYC, blocking off city streets, wrangling pedestrians, and re-directing traffic, most producers prefer to use other cities (or backlots in Los Angeles) in order to save millions of dollars of their budgets. For a movie like this one, which takes place almost entirely in Manhattan, its budget would likely double if they filmed everything on-location.
