What could possibly top the recent run of cocaine-fueled bears, sharks, and cougars? How about a cute, three-toed critter turning a sorority house into a Slotherhouse? Yes, the world’s slowest animal has turned homicidal and is carving up sorority girls like a seasoned slasher. Although, as the prologue that shows the critter getting bagged by poachers hints, this isn’t your typically chill furry tree hanger.
Emily wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become president of Sigma Lambda Theta, Slth for short. Unfortunately, she lacks the ruthlessness and social media presence of the current president Brianna. However, a chance meeting with Oliver, an exotic animal aficionado of dubious morality, changes everything. What better way to become the president...

Banijay, Stéphane Courbit’s TV production and distribution powerhouse behind “Survivor” and “Peaky Blinders,” has made a vibrant debut in the Amsterdam stock market.
The Paris-headquartered company, which took over Endemol Shine Group in 2020 in a splashy $2.2 billion deal, saw its revenue climb by 16.5% – or 13.3% at constant currency — to €3.21 billion ($3.4 billion) in 2022. While its profit margin fell by 1% to 14.7%, Banijay’s earnings before interest, tax and amortization (Ebitda) grew by 9% to €472 million ($501 million) in 2022. A bullish performance compared with its rival Fremantle whose Ebitda reached €162 million after rising by 15% during the same period.
Banijay was listed last year through a newly-created special purpose acquisition company named Fl Entertainment. The banner comprises both Banijay and Courbit’s online gambling group Betclic. As a whole, Fl Entertainment’s yearly revenue rose by 13.2% at constant currency to €4 billion ($4.2 billion).
Banijay’s strong financial results were bolstered by its content production and distribution activities.

Of all things, Micheal Ward was most scared of the pigeon. The actor had arrived on set for Empire of Light, his biggest project yet. He would be the co-lead opposite Oscar winner Olivia Colman in a film directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes and shot by Oscar winner Roger Deakin, also starring Oscar winner Colin Firth. But it was Coco the Pigeon, no awards to her name, who had Ward sweating. “I was so nervous,” he says, laughing about it now. “I didn’t even touch it until Sam told me to. Me being a director’s pet, I gave it a little prod, but...” A violent shiver runs up his body. “Eurgh!”
Fear of feathers is not something you’d expect from the 25-year-old Bafta winner who made his name playing a gang leader in the crime drama Top Boy. So synonymous is Ward with his character that...

Kevin Rooney, a stand-up comedian who won two Emmy awards for his work as a writer on “Dennis Miller Live,” died at his home on July 19 after a battle with diabetes and end-stage renal failure. He was 71 years old.
Rooney’s death was confirmed by his colleague, Jay Mandyam.
“He was a sophisticated raconteur and was a modern-day H.L. Mencken or Schopenhauer,” a statement from Mandyam reads. “As curmudgeonly as he was, he was always the wittiest person in the room and was generous and kind to all.”
Rooney briefly attended Lawrence College in the 1970s before joining the military. In 1977, he began a career in comedy, performing his first stand-up set in Washington, D.C., concluding his act by an act of arguable baptism — pouring a pitcher of beer over his head. Rooney then attended the University of Massachusetts where he studied to become a teacher.

Emmy award-winning comedy writer Kevin Rooney passed away in his home on July 19th after a long battle with diabetes and end-stage renal failure. He was 71.
Rooney wrote Jay Leno’s first comedy special, Jay Leno and the American Dream. He also worked on Leno’s “What’s my beef?” tirades for Late Night with David Letterman in the ’80s.
“He was the greatest muse a comedian could ever have,” said Leno, who met Rooney at The Improv. “I got so much material just through conversations with Kevin. The first time I saw him, I thought, ‘Oh boy, this guy is really good.’ It’s a real voice. There’s no gimmicks. He didn’t have a catch phrase. There wasn’t a funny look. Netflix continues to bet big on kids and family programming. The streaming service announced on Friday it optioned the rights to Annie Barrows’ illustrated children’s book series “Ivy & Bean” and plans to make them into movies.
The live-action films will be one-hour in length and geared toward family audiences. Kathy Waugh is writing the movies.
“With a one-hour run-time, the ‘Ivy & Bean’ film series will still very much be movies the whole family can enjoy,” said Netflix’s Director of Family Features Naketha Mattocks. “Safe, fun and elevated comedy-adventures, they also have the wonderful benefit of giving the youngest members of the family an opportunity to see themselves as the star of their own story.”
“Ivy & Bean” follows two unlikely friends — the loud and fearless Bean, and the thoughtful and quiet Ivy. Yet the two discover that an adventure can reveal that even seemingly different people can become the best of friends.

Most BAFTA categories are decided by the British film academy, but the Rising Star Award is voted on by members of the public. So who will win this year’s audience-voted prize? Awkwafina is the front-runner according to the consensus predictions of thousands of Gold Derby users, but can the American actress, comedian and rapper really prevail? She would be the first American winner in 10 years and only the third ever to claim this prize.

Exclusive: Netflix is going it alone on The A List after the BBC decided against commissioning a second season of the teen drama.
Produced by Lionsgate-Backed Kindle Entertainment, the 13-part first season of The A List was commissioned for the BBC’s streaming service iPlayer. It launched on iPlayer in October last year before being picked up by Netflix in July 2019, with the U.S. streamer carrying the drama globally except in the UK.
Nina Metivier, who co-created and wrote The A List with Dan Berlinka, told Deadline that the BBC has since backed out of the project and they are now developing a second season exclusively for Netflix.
“It was picked up by Netflix for worldwide and now they’re looking at a second series,” she said in an interview after being named as one of Deadline’s 10 British TV writers to watch in 2020.

Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall has regenerated the BBC show’s writing team ahead of the launch of season 12 in early 2020.
Nina Metivier, writer of BBC and Netflix series The A List, and A Discovery Of Witches writer Charlene James have penned their first episodes of the sci-fi drama, as has Maxine Alderton, who has written for Cbbc’s The Worst Witch.
They join three writers who worked on Doctor Who last season: Vinay Patel (Murdered By My Father), Ed Hime (Skins), and Pete McTighe (Wentworth). It means there was an even split of male and female writers who worked on season 12.
In addition to the writers, four new directors got to grips with Jodie Whittaker’s time lord: Nida Manzoor (Enterprice), Emma Sullivan (Call the Midwife), Jamie Magnus Stone (Orbit Ever After) and Lee Haven Jones (Vera).
Chibnall said: “Along with our returning faces, we’re excited to welcome new...

“The A List” are set for Netflix in the U.S. and around the world after the streamer picked up the U.K.-produced teen drama.
The supernatural thriller series is set in what appears to be an idyllic island summer camp. Mia, played by Lisa Ambalavanar, arrives there expecting the holiday of a lifetime, but the trip turns into a twisted nightmare with the arrival of the mysterious Amber (Ellie Duckles).
Kindle Entertainment produced the 13-part series, which bowed on the iPlayer, the catchup and on-demand service of U.K. pubcaster the BBC. It was written by Dan Berlinka and Nina Metivier (“Doctor Who”), and executive produced by Kindle’s Anne Brogan (“Hank Zipzer”).
Kindle is backed by Lionsgate, which distributes “The A List” and did the Netflix deal. The streamer has it everywhere except the U.K.
