Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and this year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.

According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.

Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation, and an untitled Trey Edward Shults film that will co-star The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.

Having carved his niche as a bonafide action star over a multi-decade career, Jason Statham needs no introduction in the entertainment industry. Analysts predicted $30 million to $40 million debut for Paramount's animated prequel, which only ended up taking in $25 million from 3,978 venues. The movie - which had a reported budget of $75 million - also made $14 million internationally, for a global total of $39 million.

Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel added $26 million from 4,172 theaters, bringing its domestic total to $225 million, and $329.7 million worldwide.

Transformers One received positive reviews (89% on Rotten Tomatoes) and strong audience scores, so the belief is that ticket sales could rebound over the next few weeks.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is now in theaters, and we're breaking down the long-awaited sequel's batsh*t crazy final act to see if the door to the Afterlife might be left open for a third movie.

When her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) is tricked into trading her soul to restore the ghost of murderous neighbour/love-interest Jeremy (Arthur Conti) to life, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) reluctantly summons Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) for help. The Ghost with the Most agrees to bring Lydia to the Afterlife to rescue Astrid... if she'll sign a contract promising to be his bride.

Lydia manages to bring Astrid home, but has already agreed to marry Rory (Justin Theroux), who Betelgeuse exposes as a gold-digging cad. Still, the prospect of tying the knot with a lecherous demon isn't exactly appealing to Lydia, and Astrid manages to find a loophole which allows her mother out of the bargain.

Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is now in theaters, and, as fans hoped it would, the movie does explain what happened to the original film's protagonists.

Though Michael Keaton's titular Ghost with the Most was obviously the main attraction in Tim Burton's horror comedy classic, the main characters were actually Adam and Barbara Maitland (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis).

The recently married couple are killed in a car accident in the first few minutes of the movie, and their displaced spirits wind up summoning Betelgeuse in an effort to drive the new owners of their house (Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz and her family) away. Things don't exactly go according to plan, however.

Ultimately, Betelgeuse is banished, and the Deetzs and Maitlands agree to share the house.

Keaton, Ryder and Catherine O'Hara (who plays Lydia's mother) reprise their roles for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but Baldwin and Davis don't appear.

Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel to his cult classic, Beetlejuice, opens this weekend, and the movie is expected to have a ghoulishly good debut at the box office.

According to the latest estimates (via Deadline), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice should take in around $145 million worldwide (Warner Bros. is anticipating an $80M domestic bow). If this proves to be accurate, the sequel will debut with more than the lifetime gross of the original 1988 movie, which finished its run at $74.6M, unadjusted for inflation.

The chaotic horror comedy should also claim the spot from Marvel Studios' Deadpool and Wolverine, which - despite briefly being dethroned by Alien: Romulus - has remained at #1 for six weekends it's been in theaters.

Back in June 2024, we learned that Fall stars Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey would be starring in an upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed. Well, guess who just joined the cast? Scream star Hayden Panettiere! She, along with several others, will be starring alongside Gardner and Currey in the new horror film.

Wait! We need to clear some things up about this movie first. It's not actually a remake. It was initially believed to be one, but instead, it's a sequel to The Breed. It's also been given an official title, A Breed Apart.

While it's still unclear who is writing the script for the film, filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst (Nightmare Shark) will be directing and producing via their Curmudgeon Films production company. In addition, Daro Film Distribution is signed on to co-produce and will be financing the movie as well.

A Breed Apart...

Back in 2006, the late, great Wes Craven produced a killer dog movie called The Breed (watch it Here), which was directed by Nicholas Mastandrea from a screenplay by Robert Conte and Peter Martin Wortmann and starred Michelle Rodriguez, Oliver Hudson, Taryn Manning, Eric Lively, Hill Harper, Nick Boraine, and Lisa-Marie Schneider. Now a remake of The Breed is in the works, going by the title A Breed Apart, and Deadline reports that Hayden Panettiere, who worked with Craven on Scream 4, has joined the cast!

Brothers Nathan and Griff Furst are directing A Breed Apart, and are also producing it hrough their Curmudgeon Films shingle. The Fursts are no strangers to killer animal movies, as Griff’s previous directing credits include Trailer Park Shark, Ghost Shark, Swamp Shark, Lake Placid 3, Alligator Alley, and Arachnoquake. Beetlejuice is back! Oscar-nominated, singular creative visionary Tim Burton and Oscar nominee and star Michael Keaton reunite for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to Burton’s award winning Beetlejuice.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was the opening film at this year’s Venice Film Festival and the sequel had a four minute standing ovation.

“There are so few opportunities to be in something that you can say is 100% original and unique,” said Keaton, who joked about his character’s evolution.

“I think my character has matured,” Keaton said. “As suave and sensitive as he was in the first, I think he’s even more so in this one.”

The first time you watch Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) brawl Yuriko Oyama aka Lady Deathstrike (Kelly Hu) in 2003's "X2: X-Men United," you may find yourself echoing what Logan says at the outset of their showdown: "Holy s**t." More than 20 years later, the fight between these two super-healing individuals with adamantium-laced skeletons still ranks up there as one of the most savage mutant versus mutant scuffles in all of 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies. Tim Burton's Beetlejuice sequel arrives in theaters next month, and Warner Bros. has released the first two clips from the movie online.

The first drops us in on a family reunion between Delia Deetz (Catherine O'Hara), daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) and her kid Astrid (Jenna Ortega), who have returned to Winter River after the death of patriarch Charles (played by Jeffrey Jones in the original movie).

The next clip spotlights the Ghost with the Most himself (Michael Keaton), who is clearly still carrying a torch for Lydia - who was only 17 when they met.

This has always been one of the creepier plot points in the first movie, but anyone under the assumption that the lecherous Bio-Exorcist will be "evolving" with the times might be in for a bit of a shock.

Michael Keaton's Ghost with the Most makes his long-awaited return to theaters exactly one month from today, and Warner Bros. has announced that tickets for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice are now officially on sale.

In addition to some new posters, we have a teaser featuring quite a bit of new footage, as the mischievous bio-exorcist of the title serenades Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) with Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting."

Lydia is understandably disgusted after her last encounter with the trickster demon, but she is ultimately forced to say his name three times and ask for his help in rescuing her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega), who has been taken by unknown otherworldly forces.

Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney) grossed $97 million on its second weekend, representing a 54 percent drop. That’s in line with other blockbuster openings and an impressive achievement. Disney now has all four of the top weekend totals this year, including the first two weekends of “Inside Out 2.” (The Pixar smash fell only 34 percent its second weekend).

That gets the third “Deadpool” (and the eighth Hugh Jackman “Wolverine”) movie to $395 million domestic and $824 million worldwide by its second weekend, the best of 2024. Whether it bests “Inside Out 2” (currently $627 million) for #1 for the year remains uncertain. “Inside Out 2” is closing in on “Barbie,” which ended up at $636 million last year, but that’s a trivia point; much more important is what these films brought to the struggling 2024 box office.

Warner Bros. has released the full trailer for Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and it reveals a lot more about the plot of the legendary's director's long-awaited sequel.

The footage begins with Jenna Ortega's sceptic Astrid Deetz - seemingly estranged from her "alleged mother" - becoming a believer after being abducted by unknown supernatural forces. With nowhere else to turn, Lydia (Winona Ryder) reluctantly summons her old "friend" Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) for help.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer and poster for the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie, which will open in theaters and IMAX on September 6, 2024, nationwide and internationally beginning September 4.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is rated PG-13 for violent content, macabre and bloody images, strong language, some suggestive material, and brief drug use.

Already this week, Inside Out 2 became Pixar’s highest grossing movie ever globally, and the Despicable Me/Minions franchise became the first animated franchise to reach $5B global. Neither of the current films in release are close to done. To wit: DM4 still has Japan, Korea and Italy on deck.

“Game of Thrones” composer Ramin Djawadi was honored with the BMI Icon Award at Broadcast Music Inc.’s 40th annual Film, TV and Visual Media Awards Wednesday night in Beverly Hills.

The Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated composer was acknowledged for his “memorable scores and themes inspiring future generations of composers,” BMI president-ceo Mike O’Neill said in presenting the award.

Djawadi’s music for “Game of Thrones” became a sensation during the HBO fantasy series’ eight-season run, which concluded in 2019. He won two Emmys, for his music in the seventh and eighth seasons, and later conducted it with symphony orchestras and choirs during world tours in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Exclusive: Renowned martial arts filmmaker, stunt coordinator and performer, and action director Andy Cheng (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) has been tapped to direct a feature adaptation of Shadow Ghost, the comic book written and illustrated by kung fu master and Fifth Ring Studios founder Sifu Kurtis Fujita, for Atchity Productions (The Meg franchise).

Shadow Ghost is described as modern, spellbinding coming-of-age story about a young man embarking on a quest to uncover the secrets surrounding an otherworldly martial arts hero. His journey into the realm of Kung Fu intertwines his fate with that of the enigmatic legend where he will fulfill a centuries-old destiny.

Page Kennedy has joined the cast of “The Breed,” an upcoming reimagining of the cult favorite. He joins a cast that also includes Grace Caroline Currey. The film will be directed by brothers Nathan and Griff Furst, who will also produce together through their Curmudgeon Films shingle.

Kennedy, a Shakespearean-trained performer, was recently seen in “The Meg 2: The Trench,” appearing opposite Jason Statham in the mega-shark movie, which opened last summer. He reprised his role from the first film, 2018’s “The Meg,” which grossed more than $530 million. He also starred on the Netflix series “The Upshaws” alongside Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire continues to roar at the theatres even days after its release. The MonsterVerse movie exceeded all expectations at the box office. The collections from China are also impressive and have reached a new milestone in the Mainland. Keep scrolling to find out.

Directed by Adam Wingard, the movie features Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen in crucial roles. Kong and Godzilla reunite in this film, and this time, they will be fighting against a common enemy, Skar, the tyrannical leader from the Hollow Earth. The sequel was announced in March 2022, and the filming began soon after in July and was over in November 2022.

As per trade analyst Luiz Fernando, the movie crossed the $100 million mark at the Chinese box office.

A busy holdover weekend for wide studio releases was led by the trio of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Kung Fu Panda 4 and Dune: Part Two. And, in a soaring performance, Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar winner The Boy and the Heron swooped into China helping the market set a new Qingming holiday record.

Meanwhile, Best Picture Oscar winner Oppenheimer, boosted by its release in Japan, has now become Christopher Nolan’s biggest movie ever at the international box office.

Before we dig into all of that, there was also fresh blood in some overseas areas with Disney/20th Century Studios’ The First Omen debuting to $9.1M from 43 markets (about 76% of the offshore landscape and notably not including France and Germany which go next weekend). In like-for-like overseas markets at today’s exchange rates, the film is tracking 30% ahead of Godzilla, 25% higher than Dune: Part Two, 17% over Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, 16% above Meg 2: The Trench, 6% over Godzilla vs Kong and on par with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

Before we dig into the latest from the Monsterverse, let’s note some other weekend highlights. Warner Bros. Pictures has finally released official photos from the long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The photos show Michael Keaton back in character in the titular role; returning stars Catherine O’Hara as Delia and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz; and Beetlejuice newcomers Jenna Ortega as Astrid and Justin Theroux as Rory.

The China Pavilion has set up shop in the middle of this year’s Hong Kong Filmart for the third year running as it aims to share the story of the evolution of the country’s film industry.

Organizers the China Film Co-production Corporation (Cfcc) have brought data with them, they say reflects that there are more international hits coming out of China, while the demographics back home continue to expand in terms of content and of audience.

“We hope to fully present the latest performance of the Chinese film industry through the China Film Pavilion and promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and foreign film industries,” a Cfcc spokesperson said.
