Steve Carell is one of Hollywood's most beloved actors. Best known as Michael Scott on The Office, Carell has also built a successful film career with classics like Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. After conquering comedy, Carell shifted to dramatic roles in The Big Short and Foxcatcher, earning his first Academy Award nomination for the latter. Recently, he's returned to television, delivering acclaimed performances in The Morning Show (Apple TV+) and The Patient (FX), and signing on for a new HBO series. However, his most lucrative role might be voicing Gru in the six films in the Despicable Me franchise.

Jimmy O. Yang almost didn’t make it to the first day of shooting.
To get into the mindset of his character on Hulu’s incredibly meta new series Interior Chinatown — in which the 37-year-old actor plays Willis Wu, a humble background character in the show’s fictional police procedural, Black & White, who thinks he’s living a real life — Yang went method. He purchased some grubby garments from Goodwill, put on a pair of old shoes he still had from his early days waiting tables, and, for the grand sum of $1500, purchased the crappiest car he could find, a 1999 Toyota Corolla.
He did such a good job, the guards at the Fox lot, where the show shoots, wouldn’t let him through the gates when he turned up for Day One of production.
“The security guard would not give me the time of day,” he recalls to The Hollywood Reporter.

Plot: Based on Charles Yu’s award-winning book of the same name, the show follows the story of Willis Wu, a background character trapped in a police procedural called Black & White. Relegated to the background, Willis goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables, dreaming about a world beyond Chinatown and aspiring to be the lead of his own story. When Willis inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, he begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, while discovering his own family’s buried history and what it feels like to be in the spotlight.
Review: Interior Chinatown is an interesting approach to telling a meta-fictional story. Rather than breaking the fourth wall or setting a story within a story, this series takes the approach of interconnecting characters often relegated to the background and showing how they can break free of their stereotypical and cliche constraints to...

The show will be set in the 25th century. According to an official logline, it will follow “Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.”
Newsome and Simien announced the project, along with fellow executive producer Alex Kurtzman, during the “Star Trek” Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which Simien moderated. Newsome was there with the cast of “Lower Decks” to discuss the fifth and final season of the animated comedy, in which Newsome voices Beckett Mariner, one of the junior officers on the USS Cerritos.
Simien, Newsome and Kurtzman will also write on the show. Aaron Baiers, Kyle Laursen, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will executive produce.

Friday started off with a bang as the cyber world was thrown into turmoil. With airlines in the United States facing communication issues with the Faa and major airlines grounding operations worldwide, it seemed like the world was on the brink of disaster. Screens at airports turned blue, Fids systems crashed, and chaos reigned as the systems that were meant to protect us from hackers inadvertently caused more harm than good.

The culprit behind this mayhem was CrowdStrike, an American cybersecurity firm whose update caused a domino effect of outages and disruptions. Microsoft also found itself in hot water as machines running ‘CrowdStrike Falcon’ were affected. While all this was going on, the narrative took a lighter turn when one of the episodes from Steve Carell’s Space Force series, courtesy of Jimmy O Yang’s genius, caught viral fire.

Lisa Kudrow plays the jolly leader of a merry band of thieves in the official trailer for Time Bandits, the Apple TV+ fantasy comedy that co-creator Taika Waititi adapted from the 1981 Terry Gilliam film of the same name.
“Nothing is too big for us to steal,” Kudrow’s character, Penelope, explains to the series’ hero, Kevin, an 11-year-old history buff and the central child star played by Brit actor Kal-El Tuck. “Ok, now that we’re close, maybe it is too big to steal,” a deadpan Kudrow says in an otherwise absurdly comedic scene in the trailer as Penelope, Kevin and her crack team of robbers come upon a giant Trojan horse about to enter medieval city gates.
Time Bandits has its characters traveling through time and space to meet adventure at every turn as they look to plunder treasure, whether when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, as Stonehenge was created or during the Harlem Renaissance.

Most space-related films tend to be serious dramas. There are very few films that present a story set in the stars in the world beyond our planet in a satirical and humorous manner. Don’t Look Up was an apocalyptic comedy-drama, while Netflix’s Space Force tried to produce another satirical comedy, but the show fell flat. Space Cadet is the story of a young woman who had yearned to head to space since childhood but could not do so because of unforeseen circumstances she faced growing up.

Brian Wilson's perfectionism led to the shelving of the "Smile Tapes" and a difficult period for The Beach Boys. "Pet Sounds" was Brian Wilson's deep and emotional response to "Rubber Soul" by The Beatles. "Pet Sounds" then inspired their album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." Despite initial backlash, "Smiley Smile" showed a different side of The Beach Boys but struggled to find its place in the music scene until years later.
The new Disney+ documentary, The Beach Boys, chronicles the bands rise to fame, their highs and lows, and their return to success and icon status with their extremely successful and well-known catalog. Steve Carell has been responsible for some of the funniest characters on the big and small screen this century. Brick Tamland in Anchorman, Michael Scott in The Office, Gru in Despicable Me, Mark R. Naird in Space Force — the list goes on. Now, per THR's reporting, Carell is set to add another notch to his funnyman belt with a starring role in a new HBO comedy from Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence and Scrubs' Matt Tarses.
The victor of a multi-platform bidding war, HBO have ordered the as-yet-untitled show straight-to-series, with a 10-episode first season in development. Lawrence and Tarses, who are currently hard at work on Apple TV's upcoming Vince Vaughn comedy series Bad Monkey, are set to write the first episode of this show, a single-camera comedy set on a college campus that centres around the complicated relationship between an author (presumably Carell) and his daughter.

After the end of strikes, agents, managers and producers quickly moved in to assemble high-profile packages to take out in what was expected to be a frothy marketplace following six months of inactivity. But, while there have been a few bidding wars and big sales with a couple of others pending, the level of demand has not been what many anticipated. The biggest casualty of the tight market — packages with A-list stars attached.
“This has been such a head-scratcher,” one agent said about the situation. Agencies are keeping record of all the star packages that went out and failed to draw interest over the past few months despite the level of talent that has included Oscar and Emmy winners and nominees in front or behind the camera, stars of blockbuster movies and iconic TV series and, in a couple of instances, famous IP. The total now exceeds 20.

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than John Malkovich as the title character in Spike Jonze’s Being John Malkovich, for obvious reasons. While he wasn’t always inclined to star in the film, following its title, which Charlie Kaufman refused to change, Malkovich eventually agreed to lead the comedy.
Recounting his experience filming the bizarre comedy, spearheaded by director Spike Jonze, Malkovich recalled one strange note he received from the debutant director.

Thoroughly impressed by Kaufman’s screenplay, despite being hesitant about starring in a film named after himself, John Malkovich eventually agreed, thanks to Francis Ford Coppola. While the future of the Anomalisa creator’s screenplay was uncertain, after Coppola got his hands on Kaufman’s work, he passed it on to Spike Jonze, who was engaged to Sofia Coppola at the time.

Exclusive: Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), and Larry Joe Campbell (The Orville) have been set for guest star roles in the forthcoming second season of Fox’s popular workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale.
Others set to appear in S2 guest roles, as previously announced, include Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke, and Krystal Smith.
Premiering last February, the show created by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale plays Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

D'Arcy finally discovered the truth about Harry's identity in the season 2 finale, eliminating the major secret that stood between Asta and her best friend. However, D'Arcy and Asta's mission to find their life's purpose may be cut short, as the Grey aliens plot to take over Earth and end the human race.
Sara Tomko, who plays the role of Asta Twelvetrees, is most well-known for projects such as Once Upon a Time and Sneaky Pete.

Some TV show creators and showrunners have managed to achieve success with multiple hit shows. Notable examples include Dick Wolf and Shonda Rhimes. Greg Daniels, known for "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation," has also created shows like "King of the Hill" and "Space Force."
Some TV writers and showrunners have been responsible for multiple successful TV shows over the years, which is not an easy feat. In the world of streaming and an unlimited number of shows available to watch worldwide, there are still some writers who manage to stand out with more than one great show under their belt. It must be noted that most TV shows include a writers' room, meaning the series creator and the showrunner are not the only creative minds behind each episode.
Some high-profile creators do undertake various roles, including writer, showrunner, or executive producer. A few famous series creators and showrunners have...

Velma disappoints fans by completely changing beloved characters, resulting in a reboot that falls flat. Ghosts fails to capture the humor of its British counterpart in a lackluster American remake. Space Force disappoints with unbelievable plotlines, and misses the mark compared to The Office's grounded comedy.
TV shows can grab people's attention with a unique and exciting concept, but there are plenty of cases where audiences are let down by terrible execution. Sometimes, a show is just different to what people were expecting, and although this can be disappointing, there's no need to write the show off. Unfortunately, there are many more examples of when a show spoils a good premise with lazy plotting, one-dimensional characters, or boring dialogue. As it turns out, good concepts are relatively easy to come by, and they aren't usually what makes or breaks a TV show.
An intriguing premise can only do so much for a TV show.
