Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Worst movie I've seen in a long while... in so many ways
Poor acting. Filled with gross, vulgar, stupid and very at all funny jokes. An few examples of the humor of this movie: gorgeous girl complains that all the guys take a dump on her chest after anal sex, one day she wants to be the one to do it. Girl keeps trying to have sex with her brother. Dad invites son to have sex with his mom to get over lost girlfriend.
I don't know what makes me more depressed about this movie: 1) I wasted money to see it 2) I wasted time to see it 3) This is the kind of humor the studios think people enjoy 4) That there were a couple of people in the theater that seemed to enjoy it
Avoid this movie at all costs... unless you are over 30 years old, still living at your parents house, cleaning toilets for a living, and didn't finish 6th grade... in that case this movie would be about your speed.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
Awesome visuals... ok story
Ok, first... the visuals were amazing. Some of the most realistic
computer generated actors yet. The level of detail was also very
impressive. If you appreciate amazing computer graphics... you
will enjoy it just for the visuals.
The story is a little weak. It wasn't a bad story... it was actually
much better than I had heard, it just felt a little thin. The dialog was
ok. It moved along with an good pace and held my interest
throughout.
It was much better than I had anticipated (given reviews I read). All
in all I thought it held together pretty well and I gave it a 7.
The Score (2001)
While not fantastic, best movie so far this year
While considering the poor quality of movies so far this year, this is so far my favorite. Even though it was fairly predictable it still managed to keep me interested throughout. It had an impressive group of actors that played convincing roles.
If you liked 'Ronin' you will probably like this movie as well. I gave this movie a 7 (and Ronin an 8 btw).
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Good bits, and really stupid bits
This movie started out really good, and ended quite good, but the middle was really stupid.
Here you have a nice thought provoking start to the movie, really setting the stage for some interesting things to happen. Then it degenerates into Mad Max meets Blade Runner with these idiotic lighted guys on motorcycles chasing people around the woods. We all looked at other during this part and said "What the heck happened to the movie?" I about lost all hope in the movie during the next chapter. It was a very cheap looking set of scenes straight from some lame b-movie (that did nothing to move the story along btw) about people destroying household robots for laughs, etc. <yawn> The bit about asking questions just made us all roll our eyes and laugh. Surely someone of Spielberg's talents could come up with a story line that held together better than this!? Amazingly the movie gets going again and ends on an interesting and slightly touching note.
I left not liking the movie, mainly wondering what happened to the middle. I gave it a 6.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
Had potential, but didn't deliver
I had hopes for this movie and it really had most of the elements to start would could of been a great series of movies... but...
Angelina was great, she WAS Laura Croft and did an excellent job of acting I thought (much better than I expected). There was obviously some money put into this movie given the nice sets and locations. But the script/story/directing was just horrible. I heard that they held off making this movie waiting for a good script... boy, if this is the best script they could come up with I would hate to have seen the others. The dialog was laughable at points, and the little touches that I guess were supposed to be meaningful or something just came off stupid and out of place. Even while the action was going on I found myself sighing and hoping it would get better. There just wasn't enough of a story around the characters (or in general) to make you really care about the film and how it played out. At one point out of the blue we are tossed a romantic interest for Laura (which previously this guy was a bitter rival) and we are supposed to buy (without any hints as to why) Laura caring about him getting hurt, etc.
While I never played the games a ton I am a big fan of Angelina, but I just found myself bored in this movie. They also seemed to have padded out her bra, which made her boobs look too big and not very real. Angelina is very hot, and it was a big mistake to mess around with her look like that I think.
I hope somehow they make another movie (that has a good story behind it) and Angelina gets another chance to shine in an action flick. This did seem like a great role for her... just the rest of the movie sucked. I gave this movie a 5.
Here on Earth (2000)
Formulaic and poorly executed
Ho hum. Rich good looking kid gets in trouble, poor girl falls in love with him, jealous ex-boyfriend causes tension.. yadda yadda. I actually laughed out loud in many parts of this movie because the next scene was so predictable and just plain stupid. As one scene moved on to the next, I often found myself wondering just how we got there, like I had skipped a few chapters in a book.
The script was pretty pitiful and didn't have me or my wife caring much about any of the characters, except the jilted boyfriend. Now, if the ex boyfriend had gotten an axe, and hacked apart the girl and rich kid, then.... then we would have a movie, and all the stupid dialog and leaps in plot could be acceptable. But, since this movie attempts to be touching and totally misses the boat (and ends up resorting to the romance equivalent of divine intervention to try and jerk a tear)... it just falls very very flat.
Avoid this movie. Clip your toenails instead, you will have more fun.
American Beauty (1999)
I feel sorry for all of you that liked this
I think the amount of people that thought this was a 'great' movie goes to show you how far society as a whole has slid. A movie must be twisted, offensive, and depressing for people to think they liked it? I just don't understand the logic in all that. I hope I will never become so cynical, depressed and without hope that I start liking this stuff like you people. If this is a true reflection of how you see your lives, I sure feel sorry for you, and it's no wonder we have so many shootings. It sure feels good to be 'uncool' now days.
Dark City (1998)
Blah... don't understand what people were excited about
Saw people talking about this one when also talking about The Matrix. I just saw the Matrix and loved it, so I thought I better check this one out. I rented the DVD and watched it. What a disappointment. Interesting look, but not that interesting of a story. Interesting idea, yes... but it didn't make you care about the characters at all, and it was quite predictable and not that exciting. Sorry guys, but I was quite underwhelmed. Worth a look, but don't be looking for a wild ride like Matrix.
The Matrix (1999)
Wow! Best sci-fi action movie I've seen in quite awhile
This movie far exceeded my expectations. I read a bit on the net, saw the trailer, and it looked interesting, but I figured it could go either way. But wow... what a great movie. All of us left wondering how soon we would be able to get the DVD. This is one of those movies that makes you want to spend lots of money on a better home theater system. The visuals were stunning and the sound & music were great. Much fun was had by all!
Guns, loud, sci-fi, kung-fu, great story, and killer special effects... what more could you want? I can't wait to go see it again. Best sci-fi movie I've seen in a long time.
