The Rhythm Section (2020)
Frustrating!
I'll keep it short: decent movie, story line, and acting all frustratingly ruined by the stupid up close, shaking camera! Not recommended.
Yesterday (2019)
Scrambled eggs!
Thats what Paul McCartney said this movie should be called after seeing it for himself. He was making humorous reference to a familiar story behind the song "Yesterday." Loved this movie! Clever story, believable acting, laugh out loud moments, a sweet romantic story, and of course, lots of Beatles songs!!
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Don't miss the train!
As a life-long Agatha Christie fan, I'm always cautiously excited when a new movie hits the theater based on one of her many books. There have been some gems, and there have been some stinkers. This movie version of Murder on the Orient Express is a gem! It's challenging to enjoy a "whodunnit" when you know who did it! Having read the book and seen a couple of movie versions of this story prepared me not to set my expectations too high. But Kenneth Branagh delivers as both the director and the main star. Superb acting, splendid scenery, and a stunning story that you won't figure out. Grab your ticket and don't miss the train!
The Snowman (2017)
The Snowman is a slow melt...
My, my, there is some hate for this movie. I did not read the book, and it seems that most of the disappointed reviews are coming from those who did read it and are unhappy with the film version. Putting that issue aside, there are not enough good murder mysteries being made, like Wind River. Nice bonus is that the scenery is spectacular, and the movie is filmed beautifully. It's the story of two detectives from different backgrounds, working together to track down a serial killer in Norway. The pace is slow, but not boring, though I was admittedly ready for the pace to pick up about half way through. The revelation of the killer is not an OMG moment, in spite of the director's attempts to lead us down different paths. This film reminded me of The Crimson Rivers, with Jean Reno. If Frosty the Snowman had an evil twin brother...
The Foreigner (2017)
You're never too old to get even!
One of the best performances by Jackie Chan that I've seen him give. He portrays a father living in London with his daughter, and she is killed in a bombing. He is relentless, methodical, and a force to be reckoned with, even in his sixties, as he seeks to find those responsible. The background to his character has equipped him for this journey. This film has plenty of action, with an interesting story, and some good acting. To quote Val Kilmer in Tombstone, "On, make no mistake. It's not revenge he's after. It's a reckoning."
The Mountain Between Us (2017)
Cold hands, warm heart!
There was only six of us in the theater, and the other five didn't check their cell phones during the movie, so nice to enjoy a film without distractions! This is a pretty well made movie with two superb actors - Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. I've enjoyed watching Elba in action movies, and he did quite well here in a dramatic role. It's a story of survival and romance, both a physical and emotional ordeal. The pace wasn't fast, but didn't need to be for this story. I enjoyed this movie!
American Assassin (2017)
Entertaining action flick
After reading a few of the negative comments, I was apprehensive about seeing this movie. Glad I trusted my instincts and the previews. Let me make this very simple, as most other reviewers already provide you with a movie synopsis. If you enjoy movies like Die Hard, Jason Bourne, John Wick, Taken, etc. - you'll enjoy this movie. I do enjoy those movies, and I did enjoy this movie. It is exactly what it sets out to be, an entertaining action flick.
