24 Little Hours (2020)
My cuppa tea
This is very much worth your time - and it is obvious that this film does right by East London and bloody crime storytelling. It is contemporary, but not rushed. It get's modern antagonists right - its evil and fierce, and gets proppa nowty half way in.
The biggest surprise was how bloody good eastenders Marc Bannerman was in this. Like a typical thief, he nicked every scene. Ands that's saying something as he was up against midwinter and the bird who played the main cop, Fiona skinner - both held their own. Weakest actor had to be keith from the office, ewen macintosh. The no bodies you can forgive but he was useless and should have done better.
The camera work was bang on, made it feel like a American film than a british one and it was put together well. The edit gave it some real zip.
It's clear that the cast had a lot of fun doing this, and the overacting from the lesser known members of cast is excused by the nonchalant charm from the lead characters.
A must see -- you wont regret,
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)
It's good but not awesome.
Even though I think these movies are just one big advert for Lego to sell more expensive toys to kids they are a fun watch with some cool one liners from well known characters.
I did think the first one was a cool idea but didn't think this one had the same spark.
The little kids will love it
Captain Marvel (2019)
Larson is a Marvel - Dont believe the hate
Heard some mixed reviews before watching this so wasn't expecting to much from it but was a little blown away how good it actually is.
As a introduction origin movie this nailed it and has an epic storyline with a cool twist.
With its awesome sound tracks and some super cool retro gems thrown in (the internet daily up scene cracked me up, kids today will never know our struggles).
With a solid cast and some kick-ass action this ticked many boxes of my inner comic book nerd.
Bad points would be and there isn't many, the CGI towards the end looked a little rushed and Captain Marvel really needs to work on her running she looks very uncomfortable, for a character as strong as she is she shouldn't be running like Phoebe from Friends , silly I know but things like that bug me.
Shazam! (2019)
Fun family watch but needed to be darker
I'm a massive DC fan and love all the movie inspired by Zack Snyder's universe.
For me this didn't have the same DNA the other movies have and felt more like a Marvel fun family movie then a kickass dark DC movie.
Don't get me wrong this is a good watch and the younger generation will enjoy it but I was expecting more.
It has a cool story and some wicked references to the other DC movies, I was impressed with Zachary Levi as Shazam he looked the part and was funny, it has some cool action scenes but I'd of preferred them to stay on the same path as the other DC movies are on and been a bit more darker aimed at the adults not the kids.
Hellboy (2019)
Stranger Things
This has been getting some negative reviews by the critics but I have no idea why, it ticks all the boxes to what a Hellboy movie should be, it's fun, enjoyable, dark, good storyline and awesome gory action.
David Harbour as Hellboy for me is the perfect replacement from Ron Perlman he look amazing and nails the Hellboy role.
This is a much darker movie then we are used to bringing a comic book to the silver screen and more of a horror edge to it. Definitely not one for the little kids, the monsters are creepy and vicious with a poppy mouth which was great and very funny.
Go into this wanting an entertaining action packed fun movie and you will enjoy it.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Game of yawns - detention for everyone
Being a huge fan of the X-Men cartoon back in the 90's I'm always excited when a new X-Men movie comes out.
A part of me was a bit annoyed that they was going over a storyline they have done before as there are loads of cool storylines to choose but I was still looking forward to seeing it and was I disappointed.
I couldn't see how they could get this wrong twice after the Last Stand... but having the same team behind the camera showed that they had learnt nothing... should have gone to Xavier's school.
Brightburn (2019)
Bizarro Superman
This ticked many boxes of my comic book inner child, having always wanted to know what would happen if Superman was bad and not good this showed it perfectly.
The story is almost word for word superman's origin but with a very dark side (like what I did there) with it extremely graphic kills and a couple of cool jump scares this was a great watch and one I hope we see more of.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Holland knocks it out the park
Always been a huge fan of Spiderman comics, Cartoons and movies so I was really looking forward to watching this bad boy.
The movie starts 8 months after 'infinity war' and has a cool way of explaining what happened.
For me the first 45 minutes of the movie started off a bit slow (good but slow) and then something happens (I don't want to spoil it so I won't say anymore) and that's when the movie becomes the Spiderman movie we have always deserved.
It had all the DNA of the old Spiderman cartoons and had the feel of a comic book story.
The CGI was stunning and the storyline worked perfectly.
With some kickass action a great Spiderman/Peter Parker and an actual bad villain this is now my favourite Spiderman movie.
Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans (2019)
Lost the charm of the show
I wish they had Horrible History when I was young I'd of learned a hell of a lot more then I did at school.
I've always enjoyed watching the Horrible History TV show and find it proper funny so was looking forward to bathe movie.
It was good but could of been a lot better and funnier, with a star studded cast I was expecting a bit more, it felt a bit stretched out in places.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)
Great creepy moviev
I do love horror movies but it's always hit or miss if they can get the beginning, middle and end right in the story but this nailed all three.
I loved every scary story and thought the presence of each scary character was spot on and very creepy.
There is some decent kills but if I was to be picky the twisted side of me would of liked them to be a bit darker with more blood.
I really hope we see more of these movies in the future.
Good Boys (2019)
Funny but could of funnier
If I'm honest I thought it was going to be funnier than it was but it is funny, unfortunately 80% of the gags was in the trailer.
I liked the chemistry between the young lads and did find their innocence was very funny and worked well with the story.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Multiverse=multi views
Amazing animation and storytelling.
I'm a huge comic geek and loves me some Miles - a true masterpiece
