I actually never really watched Doug growing up in the 90's. Coming back to it as an adult, it is one of the few children's cartoons I can watch and still enjoy. I don't know why I did not like this as a kid, perhaps it was because of the unusually colored characters. Doug really reminds me of Charlie Brown, both have sisters, have dogs, are bald, and somewhat of an outcast but are lovable. Doug is so relatable, and each episode is great with Doug writing a journal and his imagination sequences awesome. Each episode is basically Doug imagining a worse case scenario and it turning out to be a lot better than he expected. The music is great and the characters are all likable, even Roger to an extent. I really like this show as Doug is an introvert and it shows an introvert's prospective on life, where a lot of other shows, the protagonist is a bit more of an extrovert.
So I never watched Doug growing up despite being a 90's kid. I started to rewatch the classic Nickelodeon Doug as an adult, and it was great. A kids show I can actually enjoy. Moving on to Disney Doug (which growing up, I did not even know existed). I was expecting it to be bad from the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Sure there are changes but it still feels like Doug. Perhaps Doug a little grown up since he is now in middle (or is it junior high) school. The biggest change to get used to is Doug's new voice which is noticeable, once you accept that it is still a great show. Nice music, no new annoying characters (Fairly odd parents, Rugrats) that ruin the show. The episodes are longer but now there is more likely to teach you a lesson. The first episode actually teaches you to embrace change.
So first let me say that I did not grow up watching this show. I am a Millennial born in 1994. This is one of the few modern shows that came after my childhood that I really like. All the characters are likable and it feels real as in all 3 of the Bears would really get along in real life. Not one character is dumb (Patrick Star from Spongeob), a bossy jerk (Eddy from Ed Edd n Eddy) or stuck up. Do not get me wrong, I loved Ed Edd n Eddy and Spongebob but it is amazing this show manages to have more realistic characters that are still fun to watch. It is also great in that has a lot of modern things that did not exist in my childhood like social media, smartphones, Roombas and self-driving cars.
