Andromeda (2000)
I liked it
For reference, I am an over 45 yr old female, wife & mother and liked it. It's definitely above average for sure. Beginning parts, I was iffy, but just keep watching it gets better as it goes along. I'm glad I gave it a chance.
If I'm getting kinda sad & don't want it to end, then that's a good sign.
> Contrary to some reviews, I liked seasons 3-5 better than seasons 1 & 2.
If you watch this show and take it for what it is, you should like it. Don't compare it to Star Trek.
> I like to know what other shows reviewers like when I read a review. If they like a show, and like lot of the same shows that I like, that tells me a lot. So, here are some of my faves:
Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek: TNG, ENT, VOY, DS9, SNW, The Expanse, Continuum, Fringe, The 100, Dr. Who, 12 Monkeys (tv show), Agents of Shield, Travelers, BSG.
> So, if you like some of the same shows that I do, you should like Andromeda. S 1& 2 are good, but in season 3 it relaxed a little, and cast was familiar and steady.
There are some parts where you want to roll your eyes, and think about quitting but don't, they are few and the good far outweigh the bad.
Foundation (2021)
Good sci-fi series
Good story, lots of action. If you like good sci-fi shows/stories, then you'll like this one. The characters are engaging and the good ones draw you in and make you care what happens to them. It starts out at medium speed, it's not slow at the start, it's just laying out the story for you. Mid season 1, starts to really pick up and season 2 is amazing, non stop drama and action. The Empire is run by 3 clones, all of their loved leader Cleon. Brother Dusk is the oldest, Brother Day (who is the ruler at the time), and Brother Dawn, the young adult ruler who will become Brother Day when he is of age. They keep moving up the ladder as they age. Hari is a brilliant mathematician, whose talent is psycho-history and that future events can be predicted mathematically. Hari gets people together, slowly to attempt to end the rule of the clones & their empire with his predictions. Couple of storylines that come together all for the same cause.
3 Body Problem (2024)
I liked it
It was definitely worth watching if you like science fiction. It's not the best sci-fi but it's mid-to high level. It's different than most sci-if movies/tv shows. I did not read the book so I had no idea what to expect. It has a little lull in the middle, when they are doing the AI headset game, so don't let that kick you off, just hold out and after that part, the puzzle pieces start coming together. It's almost, and maybe it is b/c I didn't read the book, alternative world/reality type with the science stuff in the beginning; it had me a little confused at first. The ending didn't leave you hanging too bad, but enough for a season 2.
The Leftovers (2014)
Moving and meaningful
It takes a roundabout crazy and funny ride at times to get the story out, but it's amazing when it does. The writing seems crazy sometimes, then it's like boom, it makes sense and you're like, ahhh, Ok, I see where we're going with this now. Clever little b's y'all are.
The musical scoring is absolutely phenomenal. It amps up the scene so much, you feel the emotions inside you.
> I had re watched Lost and was looking for something along the same "feel" that Lost gives you. I knew I had watched The Leftovers, but couldn't remember a lot or if I finished it.
Well, I remembered some but I didn't finish it and boy am I glad I rewatched it. It was that damn good. It's a little crazy at times, but just go through it b/c it's worth it.
The Green Prince (2014)
It's really good
I don't know how I found this, or why I watched it, but I'm glad I did.
> It's a true story, and it's got mystery, betrayal of many kinds, and in the last place you'd expect, it has love and admiration. It shocked and surprised me in many ways. If given the chance, Hollywood writers couldn't have written a better story than this true one.
> All I can say is, that if you think this isn't the type of doc you usually like, or dismiss it for any other reason, don't. It's not something I normally watch and would dismiss it without another thought, but I didn't for some weird reason and I'm so glad I did. Just watch it.
Star Trek: Picard: The Last Generation (2023)
Just awesome
> Don't stop watching when the credits roll, there is a little surprise scene in middle of the credits. When you see it, you're like, well of course, this makes sense.
> Season 3 was like it's own one season show where the band (plus a few old and new) gets back together again. This episode was great, I was nervous about how they were going to end it, but I was happily pleased. Especially the big F U to the borg hag queen.
> There is even the possibility of a spin-off series with seven of nine's new crew including the LaForge girls and Jack Crusher Picard, that would definitely make for some interesting adventures !
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
I like it
If you liked the original 9-1-1, then you will like this one. Just give it some time to learn the cast and they start gelling together better.
> I wasn't sure I'd like it but having Rob Lowe as the main character definitely helped sway my decision to watch it. I'm glad I took the chance.
> I find it very similar to the original show. Cast is good and they gel well as a group. It has real good music, touching story lines and a good bit of comedy. Rob Lowe is funny as the fire captain b/c he's manly in his fire fighting job yet so into not losing his hair & how his hair looks, has a skin care routine, it's a funny combo.
> Rob Lowe is a fire captain in NY and the only survivor of his fire house on 911. They recruit him to help re-build the 126 fire house in Austin after a tragedy there. So him and his son, also a fire fighter move to Austin.
> He hires the best of the best, they're an eclectic group but end up getting along as well as the crew on the original show.
9-1-1 (2018)
Good drama/comedy - w/ great music
It's a good drama with a great cast that gels. It has good story lines and a decent amount of comedy,
I actually laughed out loud a good bit.
> It sort of reminds me of Grey's Anatomy
in the good years. Dramatic emergency situations, family/friend/romance drama with funny parts.
Oh, really good music also !
> What I like is, there are more than one emergency per episode. Good, dramatic emergencies, some more scary than others, some are even very funny.
> Main story is the LAFD crew 118, mixed with the 911 dispatcher crew and the LAPD. They all work in same area, so respond to calls together, plus some are friends, some are married and/or related.
> I didn't expect it to have the amount of comedy as it does but it's nice b/c it balances out the drama.
Torchwood (2006)
Good show
It's a good show if you like mystery mixed with the supernatural. First 2 seasons are what Torchwood is all about, a secret organization keeping the world safe from all things unknown/alien. Third season it expands a little globally with the psycho aliens wanting children, who's the alien experts, you guessed it, Torchwood. Season four seems very different at first, I wasn't sold yet but a lot of people dismissed it as horrible at the get go. Keep watching b/c Granted, season 4 has not been typical Torchwood; but that doesn't mean it isn't good. It's more like the espionage version of what's left of Torchwood working with the CIA to save the world. Story line all comes together and it's pretty good. Maybe not like season 1 or 2 but it evolved for a reason. The Reason TW is needed is b/c they have all the alien/tech/future knowledge nobody else knows or has. They tried to get rid of them but you just know it's gonna be TW that saves us all.
Chicago P.D. (2014)
Very good cop show
Every episode has good action and drama, with a story line that sucks you in. No boring episodes.
Each episode there are new crimes, mixed in with continuing crime cases, and personal story lines also.
> If you like shows like: The Wire, Southland, 24, Justified, Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles, Rookie Blue, Bosch, or The Shield; you will like this show.
>Yeah he's rough on the real scumbags, not enough that it should bother you. Maybe a slap and the rest is just instilling fear so they'll give him a name, that's all, but it's quick and they can save lives.
You'd want him fighting in your corner.
I have watched probably 95% of the cop/detective/CSI/FBI/CIA/special ops type tv shows and this is a good one.
NCIS: New Orleans (2014)
Needed location expert & better writing
This show seems like it has no location expert people to advise on the correct accent, food, etc.
The streets of the FQ either have a jazz marching band or they are eerily devoid of people and cars.
We don't eat beignets, shrimp or red beans every day.
We do say "ya'll " but we say it quick like wall. Hey, ya'll come here. That's because:
> We here in New Orleans and surrounding area DO NOT have a southern accent.
> Can only compare it to a New York type accent, with some Cajun mixed in. If you go 60 miles in any direction, you start to hear the southern drawl.
( if you heard a real heavy accent from down the bayou, you would not understand a word of it).
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Elysian Kingdom (2022)
Eh
Watch the first 7 mins and the last 2 mins.
> I'd say skip it but it deals with the fate of the doctors daughter that was sick & being kept alive inside the transport beam.
> Actually, after writing this, I'd say you can skip it.
Resident Alien (2021)
Feel good drama and witty comedy
Takes a few episodes to get going, like any show, gotta meet all the people and get their story stuff outta the way.
After that it gets more and more interesting and more and more funny.
> I didn't expect this show to give you the feels. I thought it was mostly a comedy, but it's more than that. The story line seems predictable, but you soon find out it's not. There are a few twists in there to surprise you.
> It's got a lot of components:
mystery= murder and he's an alien who was on a mission when ship crashed, but what mission ?
Comedy (not stupid hi jinx comedy) = the interactions with him and the kid who sees him in his real form are hysterical.
Drama= the friendships and realationship's only get better each episode. The Feel good parts.
If you like shows like Ted Lasso then you'll like this show. Feel good drama, with witty comedy mixed in.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Relevant review
I enjoyed it very much. It was good to see some old faces. I very quickly liked the new characters, they did a good job.
Storyline was good, the graphics were off the charts. It did get a little happy/sad emotional at the end it of season 1, but FYI, that isn't what "woke" means.
> All the bad reviews are from the same camp.
The OG Star Trek die hards, who's mantra is: old Trek good, new trek bad.
> They say things like, "this isn't Star Trek" and belittle the writers, actors, producers, hairstylists, caterers, etc. For even attempting such an insurmountable feat . How dare you !
That's b/c if it isn't corny and fake looking then it isn't "real" Star Trek.
Gimme a break, quit your whining already and enjoy things for what they are.
Enterprise (2001)
Really liked it
I was skeptical based on some of the bad reviews but I'm glad I didn't let that sway me.
I really liked Enterprise, and it has my favorite Star Trek character, Shran the Andorran, he's blue with antenna , good heart and very sarcastically funny.
> I watched all the Star Trek shows, except only a little bit of the original
I'd have to say, that TNG and Enterprise are the ones I like best.
I think the OG, die hard Trekkies, like each new Star Trek series less and less. So any reviews saying, " this isn't Star Trek, blah, blah, blah", just skip that review b/c it isn't meant for mainstream people looking for honest, Unbiased opinions.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Loved it
> Comparing this to older Star Trek, is like trying to compare LeBron James to Michael Jordan, you can't do it b/c it's a completely different era, and it isn't fair.
I think if you take it for what it is and don't constantly keep comparing it to other/older ST series, then you should like it. This is a newer, darker, and more "edge of your seat" version.
> The action and suspense are great, and the scenery in season 3 is breathtaking ! I
Each characters is unique, charming and funny. You can't help but like all of them; they are a funny dysfunctional group that you want to be in.
> I think if you like shows like: Battlestar Galactica, Dark Matter, The Expanse, any/all Stargate series, Firefly, etc., then you will like this series.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Watch 3 epi's and it'll get you too
For a while, I wasn't sure, put it off.
Tonight, I started it before I could change my mind.
> It progressed like this:
Episode 1- Good, little wonky at times, but ok
Episode 2- Better-less wonky-more feels-more funny
Episode 3- Laughed out loud multiple times and lots of feel good moments.
Episode 4- I'm ALL IN !
> Watch 3 episodes minimum and you'll be hooked.
It's a comedy and it's a feel good drama, so you get the best of both worlds.
Ozark (2017)
Definitely watch !
I watched seasons 1 & 2 and never got around to watching season 3, so I just watched it from the beginning again through season 3 and WOW !
> Firstly, Jason Bateman is phenomenal; he's a great serious actor that has the ability to throw in the funny/sarcastic lines- you dont see coming- into the mix to where it just hits you & makes it funnier.
> The show is good and gets better and better. Season 3 ending surprised me and not a lot of shows do that because I usually figure out where they're likely going with things.
Can't wait for season 4 later this month.
> If you like good acting, tense drama and a good and different storyline then you will like this. Keeps you guessing.
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
Last season was so aggravating
The COVID episodes went on way too long.
> The non-Covid storylines involved:
politics
racism
racist attacks
racial profiling
women's rights
LGBTQ
people marching
people fighting
Unprovoked attacks
horrible dirty cops...
..jeezus ENOUGH ALREADY
> I couldn't take any more. It's the first time since the show started- forever ago- that I didn't like it.
> People watch tv and movies to relax and escape from the daily b.s. Of the world.
>Give me back my O. G. Grey's, or end it, that's the only two options.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
It's ok, but too soon to judge really
Its really too early to judge anything at this point.
>> 90 percent of the many tv series I've watched, the first season is nowhere as good as the rest.
Most shows don't get good until the latter part of season two. Story and, plot have developed, and you've gotten to know the characters.
> It's Dexter but it's a separate show. People have certain expectations for this 2nd chapter and it's only 4 episodes in and nothing has really developed yet.
>> Who know which way it will go, but at this point, it's too early to make any assertions.
Rookie Blue (2010)
Happily Surprised
If you like shows like these, you'll like Rookie Blue.
> Castle
> Bones
> The Mentalist
> Rizzoli & Isles
It's a Cop show mixed with the love, life issues and friendships of the main cast that work at station 15 in Toronto. It has a bit of comedy mixed in too.
You have to watch until season 2 and then it really gets going. Each season gets better and better.
> I attempted to watch this a few times and quit. I know most shows aren't great from the start and require watching more than just a few episodes.
Once I got into season 2, I was hooked.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Not great, not bad...but Dark, depressing and slow
Realistically, NOT a 10 by any means, and it's not a 2-3 either. I rated it a 7 based on cinematography, music and acting.
> The story itself is more of a 5-6 because it's dark, depressing, unrealistic and infuriating. It's slow moving and it never makes you smile or feel good.
For the reviewers that said this is what our world is coming to, you are out of your mind. Maybe people upset with government and such but this is a whole different crazy messed up kinda world. It's way too extreme and sadistic.
Even North Korea is nowhere near as bad as Gilead.
>> I wonder what kind of person comes up with this $hit.

Falling Skies (2011)
Maybe
So you'll get where im coming from. I'm a big sci-fi fan, and some of my faves are all 3 Stargate Series: SG1, Atlantis & SGU, Battlestar Galactica, Fringe, The Orville, The Expanse, etc.
> Like others have said, this show starts out pretty good but by season 4 it starts to wear thin and it gets old.
> I'd say watch it if you're out of all other sci-fi shows to watch.
P.s. Make sure if you haven't seen any of the ones listed above to get on those first.
