Speak No Evil (2022)
Best viewed through the lens of satire
This is a repost from a redditor who I think got the premise of this film correct.
Spoilers ahead -
"Why? "Because you let me" This is, for me, the key to it all.
They presented so many tests to see if the family would kick back, to see if they would leave or say stop. And they never did, so they knew they owned this family.
Making the daughter sleep on the floor, leaving the kids alone with a babysitter that spoke no English, making him pay the bar tab, making the wife eat meat, walking in on the wife showering, taking the daughter into their bed etc To see if they would say stop, no more & display strength.
Even towards the end, leaving the car for a pee with keys in ignition. They pushed & pushed and gave them so many chances to act - yet they never did.
I get the impression that if the Dutch family kicked back at some of these tests then they would have just let them go. But they always backed down and caved - so they deserve their fate (in this world's viewpoint). Even the quarry at the end, knowing everything was lost, Still compliant.
Very dark, very intelligent and nasty. What seemed like selfishness and inconsiderate behaviour was seeing if the family would stop it at any point. And they never did.
