The Brothers Grimm (2005)
Looks pretty, but the story is a jumbled mess.
I had such high hopes for this movie. Being a fan of Monty Python, I thought Terry Gilliam's imagination and charm would make the movie great. But, sadly, it is only great artistically.
The opening scene with the younger Grimm Brothers is a shoddy way to start the movie and, after the "fake" exorcism of a witch (which I thought was pretty funny), everything goes downhill from there.
With bits and pieces of Fairy Tails painfully blended in with the story, (The Gingerbread Man part was the worst) even humorous acting by Matt Damon and Heath Ledger couldn't save this movie.
I give a good grade for art, but when are movie-makers going to realize that the story is more important?
Van Helsing (2004)
I saw it twice!
This movie is very very very good. Screw what the critics say. This movie is very action-packed, in your face, has great effects and it's funny too.
The way the brides transform from creepy bat monsters to beautiful women is really cool.
And Richard Roxburgh is really cool as Dracula. I almost didn't recognize him as the duke from Moulin Rouge!
The only part I didn't really like was Frankenstein's monster. He looked cool, I just didn't like his character. But other than that it's no big deal.
Also, Hugh Jackman and Will Kemp are extremely hot in this movie!
For all you fans of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, you're gonna love this one!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
A Masterpiece as always! *SPOILER WARNING!!!*
*Spoilers!*
Probably the best movie in years, even better than the last two. Now, I'm no Lord of the Rings nerd who can speak, like, Elvish fluently and buys tons of memorabilia, but you don't have to be a pshyco fan to love this movie.
As always, Gollum was incredible. The opening where it shows Smeagol killing his cousin and slowly turning into Gollum is totally creepy! But he still get's plenty of laughs just like the last movie. Maybe now that Andy Serkis is actually seen onscreen this time he could be a possible candidate for the Oscars!
A must see for fans of the books, the beauty of the movie or all of those cute guys! (Viggo and Elijah!)
Brother Bear (2003)
Very good family film
I went to see this with my little sister and we both came out very pleased. Sure, it's no Lion King, but who cares?
My favorites were the moose brothers Rutt and Tuke and the bear cub Koda (who I thought was gonna be annoying but turned out adorable.)
A wonderful Disney film that should kick 2D animation back in the game.
Schneider's 2nd Stage (2001)
Spooky Short With a twist! *Spoiler Warning*
*WARNING!!!!!!*
*Spoilers!*
Kenneth Branagh is fantastic as Joseph Barnett in Schneider's 2nd Stage (Of course he's great in everything, even the movies that everyone thinks sucked)
Joe is taking a drive out in the country and goes the wrong way. Then he receives a phone call from a guy who tells him to look in the trunk of his car. There is a ten year old girl, dead and rotting and, apparently, has enough evidence to prove that Joe raped and murdered her. The only way to save himself is to bury the girl.
Of course the voice of the guy on the cell is Kenneth also, so you know Joe really did kill the girl but he's just a poor madman who doesn't know that he is crazy to begin with. But it's still very good.
You can see the whole movie at atomfilms.com. Go see it!
School of Rock (2003)
A Classic Black Comedy!!! (Jack Black that is)
This movie was sooooo cool! I wasn't expecting much from this except a good laugh at good ol' Jack Black, but man was I wrong!
First of all, Jack Black is, of course, hilarious! Secondly, the kids were amazing. Not only were they good actors (especially the Liza Minnelli lovin', designer wannabe ten year old, which I thought was comic genius) but they can really rock! Especially the lead guitarist and the drummer. And that chubby black girl can REALLY sing! And third, besides being PG-13, it is very kid friendly. I took my eight year old sister and my 11 year old cousin with me and they loved it too.
I only have one complaint. No, it's not about the movie, it's about the two women I had to sit next to. They just WOULDN'T STOP LAUGHIN'!!!! Even on the serious stuff they were positively cackling. They laughed so loud and in a weird way, I just wanted to smack em'! They were worse than my aunt, and that's saying something!
Besides the occasional annoying movie watcher you have to sit next too, this movie is a real gem, with great acting, good morals and fantastic songs.
10 out of 10
Spider-Man (2002)
What a great game!
This game is great. Not only do Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe lend their voices, but the animation is amazing, the scenery of New York City is so cool, and there is lots of cool extras on the game too. It's also kid-friendly.
I recommend this game to everyone!
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003)
This is Nuckin' Futs!
I loved this movie. David Spade is a comic genius. I thought Dickie's catch phrase "This is Nuckin' Futs!" was hilarious. I recommend this movie to David Spade fans and for yall who just want a good laugh. I totally recommend this movie.
Shrek 4-D (2003)
Okay, but not as good as the movie
I was really excited of seeing this, but came out a little disappointed. The animation is breathtaking (Like the waterfall) and the 3-D is pretty good, but the jokes feel strained and there are one too many 3-D cliches. I also didn't like the fact that Farquaad came back as a ghost.
But I did like the first part where your in the little torture chamber with the 3 little pigs, Pinnochio, The Gingerbread Man and the magic mirror. The rest is cheesy. But I'm sure the little kids will like it (My little sister did) so I guess that's all that matters.
6.5/10
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003)
A terrific movie for kids and adults!!!
I just took my little sister to see it, and it was hilarious! Pitt gives Sinbad enough humor to entertain kids, and "mature humor' for the adults. (Wink wink) Catherine Zeta Jones is really lovable as the spunky Marina, Pfeiffer is sinisterly evil and sweet as the goddess of discord Eris, Proteus is, like, the most loyal friend I have ever seen and Sinbad's crew is very charming and funny. Also, Spike the dog is adorable, minus the constant slobber. ;)
Also, lots of action! A sea monster, a Fish Island, sexy yet vicious Sirens (notice that one flashes her pointy, neon green teeth) a huge snow bird, and your good old fashioned swash-buckling sword fights. A big kudos to the people who choreographed the sword fights. It was awesome!
Also, it has many good morals. Stealing is wrong, follow your heart, be loyal to people, treat people with kindness, be selfless, and keep your word.
Of course the plot is predictable, but they give it to you in a sweet, funny way. And it works. I recommend this movie to anyone.
Who's bad? Sinbad! ... But, bad in a good way... Heh heh...
Eight Crazy Nights (2002)
HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!
This has got to be one of my favorite Adam Sandler movies. My absolute favorite characters are Whitey and Eleanor. They're extremely funny and they really got to my heart as well. Go see this movie if you love laughs, animation, or just your average 4 foot, paternal twins with hair problems and weird feet.
