Justine (2019)
For what it is, it's okay
A disclaimer:
I have Spina Bifida. I am very, very wary of a movie that purports to have an actual Spina Bifida actor in it. And I was right.
This film did nothing to explain anything about the Spina Bifida/Hydrocephalus angle. It just said she was going in for a shunt revision? Puh-lease.
A little history: Usually, Spina Bifida (a hole in the back) and Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) go hand in hand, but we never are told that. We are told that she's going in for a shunt revision, only to remain uneducated.
Ugh. Kill me now. And would it hurt anyone to actually hire a true Spina Bifida person? Daisy Prescott, for what she's given, does an admirable turn as Justine, but she does not, to my immediate knowledge, have Spina Bifida!
Infuriating.
Hollywood, hire actors with their actual disabilities!!! My research is Ms. Prescott has an autoimmune disability and yes, that is difficult and demanding as well, and she does a great job at her role, but c'mon!!!!
Ay, it was a no-go for me and mine.
HIStory: Right or Wrong #01 (2018)
A beautiful family story
Xiao Fei is a student of Shi Yi Jie, a divorced assistant anthropology professor with a daughter, who is between seven and eight, who takes over a colleagues life and death class when she goes into early labor. Through a series of events, the three become family as Xiao Fei starts as You You's nanny, and eventually becomes family. It's a beautiful story and both are clearly broken by life, but with vastly different outlooks and a common affection for You You. When they realize their love, it is beautiful, and Xiao Fei's bestie awesome. I rewatch this regularly because I love the characters so.
The Legendary Life of Queen Lau (2022)
Sometimes it's not about what we think we need or want, but rather, it's who suits you best!
This made me laugh right out loud, almost to the point of crying. The lead may be called plain, but she's beautiful inside out, and the young emperor learns what it's like to see someone for who they are and not for what they look like.
The funny bits are truly funny.
I was mesmerized by the performance of the female lead. She made me laugh and wish I knew her character personally!
Watching the young emperor fall in love with her was more than worth its weight in gold. When he finally got it, I liked him better, but it made me laugh because he was like so many other men. Highly recommended.
Meow Ears Up (2022)
Cute and sweet
Dermdem is an orphan who grew up, becoming a cartoonist. One night during a thunderstorm, Meow, a humanoid from a cat tribe, crashes into the loner's home, bringing chaos and color into his life, as cats do! It's a great watch. It brings Dermdem and Meow together in the cutest possible ways, and it brings together two other couples: Faiyen (Meow's elder brother), and Evan, an English professor. Jin is Dermdem's editor and they grew up together in the orphanage. Manni is the assistant to Jin and she has her own secrets! Truly, truly adorable cast and story. Highly recommended.
He She It (2019)
Incredible
Dark and gothic tinged, this is a stunning work that takes less than an hour to get through. It is divided into three parts: He, She, It, and through these three segments we learn the truth about Mike, who has been double dating; a woman named Pear, and a man named Peem, and what really happened the night that one dies.
The theme song "Comedy" is disturbing and haunting in its own right.
So highly recommended if you love dark and haunting stories. Poe would approve, I think. It's stunning. Mega kudos to the cast and crew, especially Jeff and Gameplay.
Grey Rainbow (2016)
A beautiful romance
I literally stumbled across this late last night on YouTube.
I held no expectations, and was rewarded with many hours of the beauty of falling in love with your best friend, and how love will change all your perceptions, good and bad. It is a great character sketch. I would have liked to see more of their story.
So much more.
There is a rape scene, so be forewarned. It is treated exactly like a rape scene and there are intense emotional scenes that follow, and there is a somewhat satisfying ass kicking from one character to the perpetrator. I would have been delighted, seeing his total annihilation, but nothing is perfect, right?
Right.
Which brings me to thoughts on the ending: It didn't have to end like that. It could have been a happy ending, but I guess, looking at it from a different perspective, it is a happy ending; just not the one everyone was looking for.
I loved this, but I truly adore Porsche. He made the series for me.
Higurashi no naku koro ni: Gou (2020)
Why?
Stick with the original.
Let's start with Satoko: So OOC it's near criminal. And why was Teppei offered a redemption arc? NO NO NO! This is a man who was abusive, and even if some of it was because of Satoko's Hinamazawa Syndrome and it caused her to hallucinate some of her past treatment, he should have never been offered a redemption arc! And in the original he even outright suggested that it was a good thing that she was a kid because of she was older...implying that he'd either have her or worse! NOT a nice guy!
Good things do not happen to those who leave Hinamizawa, so why were Rika and Satoko at St. Lucia's, when none of the other girls in the series who attended there were happy? Shion ran away, and poor Ange, as well as Jessica, who also attended? She fared the best of the lot, but I can't imagine it was always roses for her, there.
And there is so much more, but my brain hurts just thinking of all the things I disliked.
Ugh. I just couldn't with this form of Higurashi. I'll stick with the original series.
I'm Tee, Me Too (2020)
A Great Bromance
Starting with the obvious, it has GMMTV's "Big Six" (Krist, Singto, Gun, Off, Tay, New) all well known for various roles in GMMTV series, but paired off, Krist/Singto are best known for "Sotus." Gun/Off are known for "Theory of Love," and Tay/New are known for "Deep Blue Kiss" but Krist, Singto, Off, New all costarred in "Sotus," while Gun was in a "Sotus" extra; all BL.
(An aside, as I write this, I have Krist/Singto's song "Your Smile" playing through my headphones. I'm cracking up. Not long after that, I heard a song by the entire cast from the soundtrack.)

"Watee" (Krist Perawat Sangpotirat) is a quiet, angry, distrustful young man who lost his mother. Left with her debts, he has no choice but to rent out rooms but his one condition is that they should all have "Tee" as a name. He is also an architecture student. His name means "speaker/talker," which is highly ironic since Watee doesn't say a hell of a lot more than "No!"
"Maitee" (Singto Prachaya Ruangroj) is a food science major who is very precise. His name refers to a "T-square" used for precise measurements. He has a good news phobia and cooks for the house. It is revealed that he and Watee were childhood friends, though it often felt like another take on Kongpob and Arthit, their roles in "Sotus."
"T-Rex" (Gun Attaphan) is a psychology major whose nickname changes from "Tee Lek" (small). It is revealed later that he is Watee's half-brother. They share the same father. Their father married the nurse who took care of him after an auto accident. That reveal was fascinating. Naturally, Watee doesn't take it well.
"Maetee" (Off Jumpol Kittiporn) is a communications major. He shares a room with T-Rex. His name means "learned sage." He is introduced as a script writer. He has a very creative imagination and is scared of everything, especially ghosts. It is revealed that it was because it was a learned childhood behavior he got from his mother's own fears. He eventually works things out with his mother, but not before being very rude and hurting her. He's called out by Watee, who has just lost his mother.
"Teedo" (Tay Vihokritana) is a cellist. His name is the consecutive notes "B4" and "B5." He can't stand to hear eating. He has to wear headphones to block out the sounds of chewing. The other housemates, along with his girlfriend, attempt to cure him. It's a cute scene.
"Teedet" (New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun) is a forestry student. Foul-mouthed but straightforward jock of the group. He busies himself with taking care of the houseplants and gets physically ill around girls he finds attractive. The boys and a friend of T-Rex help him overcome his fear. She ends up his girlfriend.
It's a great show. There was only one part that I thought could have been done slightly better, but the overall show is wonderful and an amazing testament to friendship.
Luce (2019)
Thought Provoking or Just Outright Annoying?
I love a good thriller. I love stories of wounded psyches and messed up minds, but this is a muddled mess. How is it that NO adult was able to reign in this kid? The parents--The father did try to reel him in, and the teacher too, but how is it that grown adults let a kid run roughshod over them? I don't get it. The only one who really gave a damn, lost everything! I hated this. What I will say is that the performances were en pointe (on point) and the most brilliant performance was the kid who played Luce, and the young lady who played his girlfriend. That, the girlfriend, was a brilliant performance. If you have a knack for spotting plot holes, this has plenty. It's a visceral emotional experience. You WILL have an opinion on its contents and characters.
