Eternals (2021)
As I said to my girlfriend in the third act - "This is very good, but still disappointing. I wouldn't go as far to say I'm bored but can they hurry up and do something?"
Pros-
Spectacular visuals.
Feels different to anything else we have seen in the MCU, and does it well.
Well cast and acted, with an interesting group of characters.
Great CGI.
Solid and emotionally intense final battle.
A few suprising turns in the story telling, more so early on.
Cons-
Padded run time which doesn't prioritise character building.
Disappointing lack of Kit Harrington's Dane Whitman.
Ineffective major character death in the final act.
Overarching narrative predictable.
Titans: Trigon (2019)
Is this the same show ?
It's like a diffrent show all of a sudden, the wait was not worth it for 1 episode pay off. I loved the 1st season but the atmosphere was so diffrent straught away, it really went from having its own personality to paint by the numbers comic book TV and almost a parody of itself. Hope the rest of the season picks up.
Death Stranding (2019)
The game doesn't really start until 5 hours in, stick it out
Technically and artistically breathtaking, tight gameplay and good story. Takes a while to get going and can be tedious at times which sometimes makes you feel like avoiding playing it, but once you start you will find it hard to get back off again. If you like well made single player games and are patient, give it a go.
The Outer Worlds (2019)
The Bethesda RPG we have deserved since Skyrim
Brilliant game, if you've ever loved a Bethesda RPG pick this up and you will have the time of your life.
Blue Story (2019)
Real review from a real Rapman fan
As someone who has listened to Rapman's music since 2014, I am the target audience for this film and if you are too then you will enjoy it. However it is far from without its flaws. Alot has been made of the fact that this is a majority 1st time actors and that Rapman himself has no formal or directing or screenwriting and while at some points they will impress you, this will also show negatively through some inconsistent writing/acting at times and low budget making for mostly cheesy effects. Both of the stars put in decent performances, Micheal Ward in particular has really impressed me so far this year in this and Top Boy. As someone who watched the original blue story as well, I'm not sure that the story changes are better and while I enjoyed the added parts of the story they did not add a huge amount.
For the target audience like me this is a high 6 (rounded up to a 7)
For the casual viewer this would be a high 5
Power: No One Can Stop Me (2019)
Power at its most Power
A great episode, with one of Omari Hardwick's best performances as ghost. There was a few bits of bad dialogue or played out scenes which stops it being a ten but delivers a satisfying end to a character your emotionally invested in.
El Camino (2019)
Perfect Epilouge and love letter to the series
If you enjoyed breaking bad, it rounds off Jesse's arc even better than the finale did, as well as adding extra depth to supporting cast like Todd. Only misses a 10 because it doesn't work as well on its own, and only really works as an epilogue (may i repeat a perfect one however) to the breaking bad universe.
The Inbetweeners 2 (2014)
Best thing the lads have done in years
I've been an massive inbetweeners fan since the very beginning. Its funny, it has personality, its relatable, its unique. While the 1st movie was fun and carefree, it wasn't true inbetweeners and it made you leave disappointed, This one however didn't. I went down to watch this movie on release with my best mate, and it was the funniest thing I've seen in years. The humour was fresh, new jokes, familiar characters, it even gave characters like Jay character development. In my opinion its the best thing the inbetweeners have done in years, possibly ever. Up there with episodes like thorpe park and full of new classic scenes and jokes such as the waterslide, the dolphin, Bantz and Nudges. Hilarious, well acted, unique and moving. One of the movies of the year for me.
