Blue Velvet (1986)
Lumberton-ville
22 June 2023
"For a long time there was only darkness.

And suddenly, thousands of robins flew to freedom."

Welcome to Lumberton. Early morning. The sun is so blinding that it is simply impossible to look at it. Bright beams illuminate red roses and yellow tulips by the white fences of identical houses. People, like ants, swarm in their small boxes, finish their morning invigorating coffee, water the green lawn, and each go about their own business. Dogville-style, the ideal town is gradually waking up after a long sleep. The city comes alive again, trying to veil the dark secrets of the blue velvet night.

Soothing symbols of serenity, like an advertisement for the American idyll of family life on the glossy pages of a magazine. Happy grimaces of people are about to writhe in crazy convulsions from lack of oxygen. It only takes scissors to cut off the corner of the page to end this world.

Making your way through the stems of green spring grass, you can see insects nibbling on the human ear, heard too much. The severed ear is an interrupted tunnel leading to the subconscious. Observation forces one to penetrate deep into history. Curiosity sticks its long nose into the folds of a piece of blue velvet drapery, which everyone keeps close to his heart, maternally protecting his secrets from prying eyes. Only impudence, we are ready to shove this piece down the throat, strangling the obsessive desire with seething anger. This "it" is dark, gloomy, sat, rotted and saturated everything around with rot until it became cramped. "It" escaped, and the robins shut up and hid their white belly of love.

"What is good and what is bad?" Exemplary boy Geoffrey A resident of Lumberton, whose fate is predetermined. One has only to throw a stone, and it will hit the target, but not today. Someone cut the yellow "do not cross" tape and boy Geoffrey banned the forbidden tape. "A brave boy is great; it will come in handy in life."

Quiet club on the road number 7. Bright neon lettering attracts attention. There is a desire to get there, but not at all for the sake of empty dialogues. While sipping their beers, all the attendees turned their curious ears towards the stage. The blue lady, shrouded in the light of blue spotlights, to the accompaniment of the piano, sings in a low, languid voice about blue velvet, which still seems to her in tears. The train of her openwork dress pulls a mystery, smoothly spreading through a dark corridor, it tends to room 710. Curtain.

A children's cone-shaped spinning hat, rotating in gusts of wind, is now located on a sofa with burgundy pillows against the background of burgundy walls. Only the wind from a constantly open window can set this mechanism in motion. Muffled light. Plants in pots, placed throughout the room, tend to rise vertically. A phone call overthrows the singer, she falls on the burgundy floor in despair. The lady in the blue velvet robe needs help. "Heat me!" - require red lips. Slap in the face. "If a wretched fighter beats defenseless women, this boy is just a coward. This is very bad".

The black Dodge Charger picks up speed, accelerates and begins its crazy ride through the night streets of Lumberton. A pink skirt will dance on the hood and someone will get a letter of love between the eyes. Pastoral schoolgirls will squeeze in the arms of their princes. Then a sandman in a yellow suit will tiptoe in to shower the hushed strange world with stardust, and a cut off ears with rot. And he will come to you, put out the light and whisper in your ear that you need to fall asleep.
