Blue Lock: The Assassin and the Ninja (2024)
Season 2, Episode 2
3/10
A disappointing adaptation for one of the biggest manga at the moment.
13 October 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode of season 2 was fairly good. It introduced us to the qualifying rounds that our characters will have to face in order to represent Blue Lock in the match against the under 20.

The trailers had showed us glimpses of what lied ahead but nothing could have prepared us for this. I don't know what to say about the animation since there seems to be none at all. Most moments look like as if they were animated manga panels in tiktok edits with great voice acting.

The animation effects are put on maximum in order to make the impact shots dramatic however, each time we had to see a kick-off, a part of my excitement died.

I have little hope that the animation will improve in the Under 20 match but I pray that I am proven wrong.

A goodish sequel to the original great idea
4 October 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The sequel or as it is revealed at the hour mark, the prequel is really strong for majority of its runtime. Showing the audience a "fairer" system of the prison and the problems that come with it. It works well to set-up the "all you can eat" mentality of the original however, it tries hard to make its ending ambiguous like the original. While the inclusion of the child in the original was foreshadowed quite a lot, the sequel just throws in a creepy children's playground to bring about the same message of "saving the next generation" however, any inclusion of the message does not take into consideration lore to justify it and the ambiguity around it is just confusing rather than intriguing.

Overall, it's a good watch but it could have ended so much better.

Solo Leveling (2024– )

Honest review from an anime-only.
9 January 2024
So I understand that this show has a massive fanbase from its source material which has received high praise over the years so there was a lot of hype surrounding this.

As someone who has not read a page of the source material, I liked the premiere but couldn't help but feel that it was the missing the 'IT' factor. Many of the manhwa readers have argued that the premiere should have been a 2 episode premiere and I frankly agree. As of now, the first episode felt like just another fantasy series. It's not bad but I just don't get the hype YET. I am really hoping that I'll be surprised as more episodes come in and will surely change my rating if the quality of the show is improved.

Comparing this to other anime that have become widely popular, the pilot just doesn't match up to their level.

I truly think watching two episodes together for this may turn out to be a better approach alas, weekly watchers will just have to wait a few days to see the second part of the initial disaster.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Right and Wrong - Part 3 (2023)
Season 2, Episode 20
10/10
Not every fight can be perfect in an anime but JJK is the exception!
7 December 2023
Jujutsu Kaisen has been knocking it out of the park with each passing episode this season. The animation, voice acting and music score has elevated the manga to 120% of its potential. There are moments which are often hyped by the manga community and so it is often difficult for the anime adaptation to deliver which is understandable but this is not the case with JJK as it delivered on each and everything in this episode.

Lastly, I can't stress how much praise the JJK deserves. They have been worked to their bone through harsh treatment and unrealistic expectations and yet, they still pushed through. They deserve all the flowers and not the greedy execs at Mappa.

Here's to a fantastic last stretch of this masterpiece of an anime arc.

Elevating the manga.
10 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is often said that fight scenes look better animated and this couldn't be more true than in this episode here. It's fast paced, the score hits and the intensity of the action leaves one breathless.

JJK is truly the best battle shounen going on right now and it's great animation is definitely an element that deserves praise. The plot twist at the end will keep people guessing for what's to come and rightfully so. Just strap yourself in and say your prayers as it only gets crazier from here in Shibuya. Might end up as anime of the year after all the dust settles in Shibuya. Week after week of bangers.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Thunderclap (2023)
Season 2, Episode 16

Peak of Battle Shounen.
10 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We get a lot of hero vs hero battles in anime but it's only JJK where you can have two villains going at it which ends up in the death of one. An animation marvel. Toji's sequence with Megumi was well-directed as it is but Jogo vs Sukuna knocked it out of the park. For me, this was the best animated episode this year.

However, there's always a dark side to these things. The director of this episode has said to be leaving directing work due to how poorly him and the team were treated at Mappa. Being made to sign NDAs so they can't reveal the working conditions so all the credit goes to the JJK team that delivered this and not the greedy execs at Mappa that wanna work their animators to the bone.

A failure in execution.
5 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Before I begin writing my review, let it be known that I have been invested in this story for over a decade. I have consumed more AoT media than any other anime in my life so this is the voice of a "fan"

So let's look at what we are left with as the series concludes. 1. Visuals of Paradis getting nuked, 2. Titan powers coming back. Leaving these the last things for the viewer to see comes off as an insult to their emotional investment in the series. Most of us wanted the issue of titan powers and the safety of Paradis to be resolved but instead, they sent off the audience with both of these issues blowing up (literally in the case of one) in our faces.

Now let's talk about the characters.

Eren: The freedom seeking fanatic turned out to be as he calls himself in this episode "an idiot with too much power" who didn't know what to do. Is this the character the series built him up to be? Him crying over not being able to be with Mikasa over the fact that he killed billions or he ended up causing the death of his mother is such a weird choice.

Reiner: The emotional centerpiece of your story and he gets cured of his years worth of trauma by receiving a hug from his mother and goes on to sniff Historia's letter. This is the character who was having split personality issues and is cured by a hug.

Zeke: Now, Zeke didn't get the message that life is precious when his father was literally hugging and crying and begging him to stop Eren while admitting that he should have spent more time with him but no when does he choose to stop Eren and appreciate life? When Eren's friend (Armin) that he has never met changes his mind over one conversation.

Armin: I feel like there are so many moments where he's shoehorned in with the biggest being the one when he convinces the people of Marley that they don't have titan powers anymore. You could have done this with Reiner. Who will Marley trust more? The one who nuked Liberio or the one that has been a loyal warrior for years. This could have been Reiner's moment to be a hero and "save everyone", something he has been trying to do ever since he was a child.

Mikasa: I'll just say this. Mikasa being the one to free Ymir was conveyed in a discussion in paths of Armin and Eren. Now, compare with the original explanation that we got for Ymir being freed and its execution. Zeke yells at Ymir to follow him as many had done at her before meanwhile Eren whispered to her to follow whatever she desires, Eren gave her a simple thing. A choice...but we got that moment ruined in favor of the reveal the Ymir was in love with the person who assaulted her and somehow Mikasa killing Eren is showing that one should not be bound to love like King Fritz and Eren are anything alike.

In the end, I am disappointed and I wish I wasn't. The journey was great, the end wasn't.

Pluto (I) (2023)

Not for everyone but definitely for me!
1 November 2023
This show is slow paced, yes but it rewards your patience with a climax that hits harder emotionally than any of the anime punches we are used to.

I had high expectations of this since I loved Monster, another anime by the Pluto's author and just like Monster, this show truly embodies human kindness and empathy.

The world is messed up and this show draws parallel to some of the darkest events of the latest millennium but throughout those moments of bleak and violent incidents, there's a ray of hope that this show never loses sight of.

Seinen anime are few in number but the recent adaptation of Vinland Saga and now this gives me hope that there's an audience that wants to see more mature themes in anime.

In short, Pluto is a masterpiece if you're patient and willing to pay attention.

Pluto: Episode #1.1 (2023)
Season 1, Episode 1
10/10
A masterpiece in storytelling.
27 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has two halves, the first one sets up a neat detective story and the interesting world it's featured in while the second one is a more personal tale of 2 "people" who get affected by that world.

The first half was good, it's engaging, the lead detective is interesting enough to pull me in for the long haul and the mystery surrounding his past is intriguing.

It's the second half of the episode that elevated it to great heights. I did not expect to be so invested in North No. 2 and his time with Mr. Duncan. Their friendship and growth was so perfectly executed. Each interaction removing a layer of Mr. Duncan's emotional barrier to allow him to trust his "machine" more. I was so deeply invested that I had forgotten about the larger plot at hand so when the clouds came, my heart sank. Knowing what was about to happen.

"Come home, my boy. You'll be late for your Piano lesson"

One of the most insane finales I've watched.
22 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The entire show has been a wild ride but oh boy, the finale topped everything that came before in craziness. From Rayman's assault to Laserhawk's sacrifice, each moment had my complete attention to what felt like a super short finale since it was so captivating.

Bullfrog just became one of my favourite assassins in the entire lore, the kind amphibian was the wisest of them all and his scene of execution was haunting. The templar order name-drop made me go Leo Dicaprio on my screen.

The post-credits scene teasing a 2025 season 2 is giving me hope that this show comes back. The story cannot end on such a cliffhanger.

The best Ubisoft crossover in history.
22 October 2023
This show felt so fresh and unique in its visuals, character design and action. I won't spoil anything but it will manage to catch you off-guard at least once every episode. Each legacy character is "remixed" in a way which makes them stand out but just have enough to resemble the original.

I really hope we do get a season 2 as this is exactly what adult animation needs, shows willing to take risks and be creative by using the power of animation as a medium.

The writing is great and the political ideology has never been more relevant than today's world. I could not think of a better time than this for the show to debut.

This is a great start and they can build on from here to make something that will be a treasure for the fans.

Review not from an Edgar fan but a Flanagan fan!
15 October 2023
Went into this with great excitement knowing this was Flanagan's last work with Netflix. An end of an era as many of us found him on this platform and fell in love with his work.

Coming to The Fall of the House of Usher, it's a good show that never touched greatness for me. It's definitely better than Flanagan's last work for Netflix, The Midnight Club but it wasn't a hard show to top. The premise is good, the writing is decent and the acting is convincing but the show itself is way too simple and predictable for it to make me intrigued about what happens next.

If you pay attention to the first episode, you can get a pretty good idea of what will happen next and the show never tries to challenge its initial premise, it's fun to watch the events play out but they play out without surprise.

I don't regret watching this at all and I believe it's definitely a worthwhile watch if you like Flanagan's previous work. Excited for whatever he does next in the future.

Blue Beetle (2023)
6/10
A good DC film after a horrendous one.
17 August 2023
Blue Beetle works well for what it is trying to be, a fun time a the movies that you won't be thinking about once you leave but during the time you're watching it, it'll keep you engaged and entertained for its runtime. The family dynamic works wonderfully and while a few moments can be a bit on the "childish humour", most of it came off as charming to me. In tone, it's the closest to the first Shazam film and a similar degree in quality as well. The suit looks great, the fight scenes are cool and the story is unfortunately, generic. The niche fanbase of Blue Beetle will definitely enjoy this one as it is one of the better DC heroes debut and a much big screen debut than a certain other, much popular hero dressed in red who runs fast. If you'd have told me a few years earlier that I'd have a significant better time with this than a Flash film, I would have called you crazy but here we are...

Invincible: Atom Eve (2023 TV Movie)
8/10
More of the same which is a good thing!
24 July 2023
First of all, glad that we got a genuine surprise after so long and none of this was leaked at all.

The episode itself is great, it explores the origin of Atom Eve and how she got her powers and I believe made me like her even more by the end. It's not essential viewing as far as I can tell but it's definitely a good one especially if you have missed Invincible content in your life like me.

Also, the animation looks like an upgrade from last season. There's also a mid credits scene which you would wanna stick around.

I am glad this special episode exists and hope that we can get a few more in the future.

Breathing new life into Zombie media!
12 July 2023
Zombies, everyone's favourite bad guys in the previous decade but over time, it lost its charm as more and more titles started blending together, making their existence entirely about its setting rather than using the setting to tell a good story.

This is exactly where Zom 100 succeeds. With just one episode, it has started a great story which has me keen and excited for what's to come. Going into the anime, knowing little to nothing about it, I was caught off guard by how good it was. Seriously, one of the best anime openers of all time.

The show packs a stylistic punch unlike any other Zombie media I have seen. The anime really used its format to play with the visuals and elevate the source material and oh boy, did it work.

Really good stuff.

Felt a bit rushed but the heart is there!
9 July 2023
My adventures with Superman definitely felt like it was trying to set-up the characters, the world and the conflict for the rest of the season during its premiere which may come off as a bit too fast paced however, the show tries to balance its rushing pace with humour and heart. This is not a deconstruction of Superman or a social commentary of what would happen if he appeared in our world but rather a heartfelt story about a boy trying to find his place in the world.

The characters are charming, the action is cool and the jokes are funny, this show definitely proves how much we have missed Supes in the animated format on our screens.

Back with a Bang!
6 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So for the start of this long-awaited season, we go all the way back to 2006 learning about Gojo and Geto's relationship and how it fell apart. The story of this episode is interesting, intriguing with a cliffhanger that will make any fan excited for what's to come.

Talking about the visuals for the episode (and seemingly this season), the art style is quite different from the first season. Choosing to go for a more cinematic approach like that of Chainsaw Man's anime which is definitely liked by me as it makes the anime feel more grand and stylised than most other shows airing at the same time.

The Lack of Juju Stroll hurts my viewing experience a bit since those charming bits used to make me laugh all day long especially the one at the end of episode 23.

If things keep going like this, we are in for a treat!

To fight or not to fight?
11 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode provided a great counterpoint to Thorfinn's pacifism about how staying idle in the face of danger and tragedy will leave one with more regrets than peace. Thorfinn's choice to let go of violence altogether is bound to be challenged soon with the inevitable battle of the farm's forces and Canute's army. In the world of Gramps, will Thorfinn choose to sit idle as people around him are massacred and live a life of "scars", Arnheid's backstory was the highlight of the episode for me. The screams as her child was dragged away gave me goosebumps and the reveal of her carrying Keitel's baby is just WOW. Another brilliant episode.

Nowhere near as good as the first season but a step in the right direction.
5 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So treat this as a review of season 2 so far. I am choosing to do it here since the entire season has been building up to this battle between Fushi's new allies and Nokkers. The tempo of this season has been off with few moments shinning now and then but there has been noticeable dip in quality from the first season. Even the Janada Island arc of the first season was more appealing to me than many parts of season 2 BUT as I was about to write off this season as wasted potential, they finally cashed in on the moment they set up early this season and brought back one of the most loveable characters of the show, March! I really hope this revelation breathes new air in the show and takes it back to the heights that season 1 claimed.

THE MATRON OF RAVENS' CHAMPION RISES
29 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This season has been such a great deal of action, character development and plot progression and is truly a great addition to the rising collection of adult animation in recent years.

Vax's character got to show off his moves and the intrigue that builds up due to the vestige attached to his body is interesting and I can't wait for its pay-off.

Too bad, Zahra had to leave, her charm was enough to make me want to root for her but I guess she did make up for her mistakes, just a tiny bit.

The Chroma Conclave might not have featured heavily in the this week's 3 episodes but their presence is still here.

The animation is good
22 January 2023
I gotta say the animation is indeed, good when it is not trying to mimick the popular adult animation style popularised by Big Mouth and trying to do its own thing. It's just a shame that the animators had to use their talent on something like this. It could have been so much better but instead it feels like a lame parody made on youtube that is supposed to be a bizarre take on the source material rather than a sincere adaption of it. Given how hate-watching has given this show so much clout, it is bound to get at least a season more and it's a shame HBO max is using their resources on this and cancelling shows like Final Space.

3/5 for the animation.

0/5 for everything else.

Questionable art-style with the triangle shadows but a good show.
18 August 2022
Definitely one of the better video game adaptations on the small screen. Netflix has been fairly good with their animated adaptations of video game franchises. This is no Castlevania or Arcane but is definitely better than Dota for me. So overall, a fun watch for those who want a short show with good action and story. Hope they remove the shadows if they get a second season.

The colassal titans stumble as they walk...
28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode itself is enjoyable on a binge watch but the pacing and the odd choice of focusing on character drama such as Connie and his mother while the main character of your show is destroying the world takes so much away from the tension and stakes involved. The annie pie scene felt like I was a B-tier marvel moment that must add a joke amidst a serious moment to ease the audience and did not fit AOT at all imo. Overall, an okay episode that could've been so much better.

While the movie is not perfect and is not the most accurate depictions of the characters, it's still a fun film that has that uncharted vibe of the games in it. The characters are likeable enough that they can be developed into becoming more like their video game counterparts. Definitely hoping for a sequel.

The best anime of this generation returns with a banger. While I think the episode could've ended on a better cliffhanger, the actual production of the episode was spectacular. From great score to amazing direction. The CGI can still be a bit wonky at times but nothing so bad that it takes you away from enjoying the show. This is just the tip of the iceberg and the show is about to go deep. RUMBLING.... RUMBLING.... RUMBLING.... IT'S COMING. Banger of an opening.
