And we just live in it ... or is it lie in it? Which would be a pun considering what our main character is doing (a lot and within reason some would say) ... does that fit with my no pun intended slogan? I think I can call it that - anyway this is a drama and a very well acted one. Considering kid actors - good ones that is - are quite rare (or that is what we are told), this has done an incredible job casting them.
Life can be complicated and while it should not be for kids ... circumstances can make it tough for them too. All depends were they grow up and how - as in their immediate environment. The movie makes quite a few points (socially and psychologically speaking) ... really well done and thought provoking at times.

I am quite certain that is not what Ms. Spears meant when she sang that song - so no pun intended. Also I probably should not make too light comments about the movie - even more so when you consider how horrible this starts off. Really tough to watch - family issues would be an understatement. Or if you want to be funny (well sometimes humor is the only way to deal with things) you could say that this right here will not win the father of the year award.
There is nudity, there is a lot psychological but sometimes physical pressure and pain dished out ... you decide if that is something that is worth it ... sometimes it is also pleasure and not just pain ... but too many cliches ... too many things that drag this down ... not really something I would recommend, unless you are a fan of one of the actors.

No pun intended - interesting movie with an interesting timeline chosen. Maybe not exactly what one may expect from this movie. But another Guy Pearce role that shows that he is not afraid to choose projects that are quite tough - and also filled with quality. See the Brutalist - well literally I guess (the run time seems way too long, but I am still looking forward to it - this Sunday).
But back to this and the time period it plays in and the setting ... plus the attention to detail it has. Really well played, really well drawn characters and also the feeling and the culture ... I am no scholar, but it feels like there was a lot of research done ... which helps to elevate the movie and the mood it is setting for the viewer.
If you like your movie to give you something to think about ... and something that has quite the quality to back it up ... well you could do worse than this.
