A different man, is first and foremost an excellent drama with an odd mix of comedy that keeps your interest. Combined with incredible performances and a brilliant score, it's a great, odd, movie.
Directing a fantastic, capturing even some more horror inducing moments but mostly having great framing and solid set design. Pacing is great too and the story moves a lot faster than you'd expect. And that leads me to the story. Which is just great. It's reasonably simple, the essence at least. No idea how some people miss the message in this movie, it's quite clear. But the introduction of Adam Pearson versus Sebastian Stan's character just created a lovely contrast and dynamic. There's alos a lot of comedy interwoven but it's kept subtle in a imo odd way, as in it really goes into almost parody at times that clashes a bit with the overal tone.
Preformances, just fantastic obviously. Stan nails it, haven't seen much from him but he nails it here. All the side characters do good too.
Music, standout score honestly, carries a bit for sure.
Great little weird drama.

Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor. To preface I have only seen the original first movie which I wasn't too big a fan of, but I love found footage horror so here we are again with another attempt. Overal, I think this is a more put together film than the first, it's mainly got better pacing and achieves more tension and thrills without being too annoying with it.
Directing, not too disorientating for a found footage which is always a plus, it's strikes a decent balance. The use of digital ''glitch'' effects has to stop, it just always feels cheap. I wish they kept it more raw. And also the focusing can sometimes be a bit overdone. The thrilling scenes take their time and are pretty well done, though the character that holds the camera pretty much disappears when these scenes happen and they just serve ''the audience'' I guess, because not all of them should be so brave and keep walking into dark rooms when it isn't in line with their character.
Characters and acting, the 3 main leads are fine, the writing makes Margo exceptionally annoying though, and her relationship is kept incredibly barebones and surface level so we get little to no empathy. This affects the acting too as it's just a bit over the top. The two others are perfectly fine with the standout being Rebecca with the best performance here.
Story, the whole film reel bits intercut between did not add much of anything to me, I guess some backstory, this is supposed to be the origin story, for that, uh it's a little weak. And still kept vague. But the whole film reel section just didn't work for me. Why not have them find a film reel projector and watch it together and bring the scares there (like IT for example).
Gore/scary factor, it's pretty good at building some tension during the scenes. Gore is just okay, feels budget. Scares are fine, no crazy annoying jump scares and I really respect that.
Overal, just okay for a ff horror.

Beef, what a little gem this is. With two leads to carry the brunt of this show it delivers and a well paced fun-filled drama.. I guess I would end up calling it. It sways between extremes and it's a thrill to watch because of it. All whilst still keeping itself planted in the real world.. mostly.
That said. This is exactly what I needed between the many prestige shows. The episode durations are perfect hovering around 30 to 40 minutes making them fly by. It's easy to binge, though I watched it over 3 days.
Directing, I mostly have to applaud the pacing, it was fantastic, add on top some good editing and a good looking series, and you've got a great start. Visually it doesn't really do anything all too new. But it's a solid start. It looks the part and colors look great.
Acting and characters, this is where the real strength has to come from of course. And the first few minutes hopefully hook you pretty quick, as it shows it's serious layers but also the quirks of it all. The comedy is scattered around, some more subtle than others. There's a few characters that are meant for more comedic relief, and whilst some work, some work a little less. That said, it's a small part. And the two leads, Yuen and Wong, are fantastic. Yuen.. I know and love, he is incredible in anything he's put in and even in a somewhat lighthearted show, he can change the tone of any scene in an instant. Lee is a honorable mention too, great presence and not overdone, it was edging during the first introductions on ''this could be too much'' but it thankfully never does as he sells the character. Everyone else is good too, exception for me to George's mother's actress, which to me felt like it lacked the needed depth and just a bit awkward and out of place in the show. But this is also due part to the writing a bit, her character is a little sloppy.
As far as story, its great, with enough turns to keep you engaged. The finale is imo a great end to it all, and the last episode is just a perfect wrap up for the characters, that said, the final interaction with George felt.. out of place. I'd rather the series just faded out at the tunnel, as we already achieved the goal, but I guess they really wanted to make it clear.
Music, amazing and a great selection, helped the pace immensely.
All in all, if in need of a break from some heavy prestige series with lengthy episodes that just feel like a undertaking just to start? This is a nice break from it all, and you know it's said and done at the end too.
