Black '47 (2018)
Amazing film for two reasons
This was a fascinating film for two reasons: the countryside is completely all consuming and the speed of gun loading becomes quite an interesting element. The characters were a little cardboard but with the two interesting elements, the rest of the film flows through. There were a number of interesting twists but the story remains relatively linear.
Thumper (2017)
Female lead couldn't carry the film
I have to agree with the other reviews that noted the main character didn't quite produce the depth needed for this film. The writing was strong. Most of the characters' pulled their part. But the lead was a bit of a miss.
Down Terrace (2009)
A Very British Gangster Comedy
This film was surprisingly good. I bought it on iTunes and have watched it a few times to get different elements. It does have an amateur dramatic group feeling to it but I think that plays well into the feeling of the film.
Miniature Wargaming the Movie (2020)
Disappointed + Needs to be Edited Down to An Hour
I backed this movie with great hopes it would provide something interests and a good overview of miniature wargaming that I could show to others. I would recommend the director/producer cuts 40-50% of this very slow moving documentary down. It lacks basic editing and far too much time is in playing with drone footage, footage of children, people who aren't relevant and dismally slow music. Interview eight people who have made reasonable livings out of wargaming. This shouldn't be a surveying of so many people. I don't think anyone who isn't a backer of this film would sit through the first ten minutes and quite frankly even as a backer of this film I couldn't sit through it. It was too boring. As the film has taken more than two years to come out, a lot of it feels dated too. If the director/producer had given early screenings to his backers he might have been able to get this feedback a lot earlier.
