The first time I watched this movie I was truly upset. When I watch a movie billed to be a love story I expect to see a love story. This was'nt a love story. I waited and waited and waited some more to see some sparks fly and they don't. Now we get to her party and they have their dance. Now all is well ; but, no, he's gone again. "what's the deal?" On top of that, he's dead. "How can that be?" I watched it again. Now I enjoyed it because I love Sandy and more or less did'nt care about all the holes in it. 1. The fact that Alex lived in the lake house before kate. 2. The paw prints were made from the mystery dog. 3. There is no attic in the lake house and on and on to one hole after another. Forget the holes. Watch it, enjoy Sandy, great sound tract, great scenery, some good laughs, strong acting and some how or other put the guy into the ground. See it twice. Much better the second time.
Who in this movie does'nt play there part perfectly? The judge looks like a judge, a hanging judge at that. The sheriff is not a sugar coated law man, rather a tough Mississippi fair law man who knows what to do realistically. All the actors are cast in the only part they could be. THEN when the intensity of the movie gets to the boiling point who comes in to give us a break? You ALL know who. There she is to give us a break, and a laugh as Sandra swoops in on us. She is by far and away the most delightful actress I have ever seen. Even after she is beaten up and in a hospital bed she gives us a couple of chuckles. She has a delivery second to none. Every one, every one plays their role perfectly. Great movie, easy to follow, great story line, great all the way around. Do I like it? Yea about fifty times viewed like it.
Makes you laugh, makes you cry. Julia at her very best. When Edward is showing the beautiful necklace to Vivian and slams it shut just as she is reaching for it is an ad lib by Gere and made everyone who watched this movie roar with laughter. I never realized how much good music adds to a film as it did to this classic Roberts film. The hotel manager (mr Thompson) played his part to the hilt. In the scene where he questions Vivian and she says she is the niece of Edward, Vivian's eyes do all the acting getting small and beady eyed. The great ones have it (Bullock, Roberts) the ability to do such great acting with simply changing a facial feature. I have watched this movie twenty times and will watch it another twenty times. Don't bother renting it, buy it and be done with it.
