Good Omens (2019)
Big disappointment
Felt like a wasted opportunity.
It was always going to be tough to match the brilliance of season one, with its narrative drive, meticulously crafted plot and script, but this was just lame.
The things that partially saved it were Tennant and Sheen's huge talent, and certain episodes such as the one written by the League of Gentlemen team.
But mostly the plot was a mess, the relationship development seemed wildly improbable
( a bit like Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson turning out to be secret lovers!) and the themes tedious and cheesy.
I kind of hope they don't make another, despite having waited eagerly for this one. I can't see how it can be redeemed aftef this.
Neil Gaiman was clearly the lesser talent. Pratchett wouldn'g have let this happen...
Emily (2022)
Emily Bronte is spinning in her grave
First. The things I liked:
the music
the costumes
the fact that it was filmed in Haworth and roundabouts
it's beautifully shot.
However, it veered so far away from anything known about about Emily's character or known facts about the Brontes as to be hilarious!
Snogging your employer's wife in church in Victorian Yorkshire? I don't think so!
Some events and even names lifted straight from Wuthering Heights and presented as real life.
The extremely reserved Emily transformed into a raving hysterical nutter with attachment issues.
Emily and Wuthering Heightskerp inspiring film makers, but anything that does do either justice remains sadly elusive.
Run (2020)
Lazy, silly melodrama. .
Started well then went from bad to worse.
No attempt at believability.
