With a deeper understanding of how music affects the brain at a neurological level, educators, therapists, and parents can leverage its advantages to enhance well-being and cognitive functions for people of all ages.</p> İlhan Uğur Yazar Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Human Sciences https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://www.j-humansciences.com/ojs/index.php/IJHS/article/view/6483 Tue, 02 Jul 2024 00:00:00 -0600 Volleyball as a rising value in Turkey: Metaphorical perceptions of young female volleyball players https://www.j-humansciences.com/ojs/index.php/IJHS/article/view/6468 <p><strong>Aim:</strong> In this study, the understanding of female student-athletes who actively participate in the volleyball branch was tried to be determined through metaphor.</p> <p><strong>Method:</strong> For this purpose, the study group consisted of student-athletes aged 8-16 who were actively playing volleyball in the 2023-2024 season. Pre-prepared metaphor forms were given to the students to bring together data. In these forms, they were demanded to fill in the blanks consisting of words with the phrase "volleyball branch is like… because…". In the first sentence, the athletes were asked to produce metaphors for the volleyball branch, while in the second sentence, starting with "because", the athletes were asked to provide justified expressions as to why they chose the metaphor they produced. Collected data; A 5-step evaluation was made, including listing and sorting, evaluation of sample images, category development, ensuring validity and reliability, and quantitative data analysis.</p> <p>The reliability of the study was checked out by utilizing Miles and Huberman's reliability formula [Reliability=Consensus/(Consensus+Dissensus] using expert opinions.</p> <p><strong>Findings:</strong> Although it was determined that the most metaphors (n:13, f:28, 52%) in the categories related to the volleyball branch were in the emotional need images category, the most frequently used metaphor (n: 4, f: 51, 16%) was ıt was found to be in the developmental images category. Participating volleyball players mostly used the metaphors of future, life, career, success, my reason for living, light, happiness and family, respectively.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Student athletes expressed the concept of volleyball from different perspectives through metaphors. In this context, student athletes see volleyball as a basic need. This has led to the conclusion that the success of our women's national team in particular plays a decisive role in this field and significantly affects the lives of female athletes. In addition, it has been observed that the volleyball branch has an increasing effect on the quality of life of student athletes and has a functional importance that touches the living spaces of athletes.</p> <p>(Extended English summary is at the end of this document)</p> <p><strong>Özet</strong></p> <p><strong>Amaç:</strong> Bu araştırmada voleybol branşına aktif katılım gösteren kadın sporcu öğrencilerin bu branşa ilişkin algıları metafor aracığılıyla tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.</p> <p><strong>Yöntem:</strong> Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışma grubu 2023-2024 sezonunda aktif voleybol oynayan 8-16 yaş arası sporcu öğrencilerden oluşmuştur. Veri toplamak amacıyla öğrencilere önceden hazırlanmış metafor formlar verilmiştir. Bu formlarda, ‘’voleybol branşı… gibidir… çünkü…’’ ibareli kelimelerden oluşan boşluklar verilerek, sporcuların formları doldurmaları istenmiştir. Birinci cümlede sporculardan voleybol branşına yönelik metafor üretmeleri istenirken ''çünkü'' ile başlayan ikinci cümlede sporculardan üretmiş oldukları metaforu niçin seçtiklerine dair gerekçeli ifadelerini sunmaları istenmiştir. Toplanan veriler; listeleme ve ayıklama, örnek imgelerin değerlendirilmesi, kategori geliştirme, geçerlilik güvenirliğin sağlanması ve nicel veri analizi aşamaları olmak üzere 5 basamaklı değerlendime yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın güvenirliği uzman görüşlerinden yararlanılarak, Miles ve Huberman’ın geliştirmiş oldukları [Güvenirlik=Görüş birliği/(Görüş birliği+ Görüş ayrılığı)] formül kullanılmıştır.</p> <p><strong>Bulgular:</strong> Voleybol branşına ilişkin ortaya çıkan kategorilerde en fazla metaforun(n:13,f:28,%52) duygusal ihtiyaç imgeleri kategorisinde olduğu tespit edilmiş olsa da, en sık kullanılan metaforun (n:4,f:51,%16), gelişimsel imgeler kategorisinde olduğu saptanmıştır. Katılım gösteren voleybolcular sırasıyla en çok gelecek, hayat, kariyer, başarı, yaşama sebebim, ışık, mutluluk ve aile metaforlarını kullanmışlardır.</p> <p><strong>Sonuçlar:</strong> Sporcu öğrenciler voleybol kavramını metaforlar aracılığıyla farklı bakış açılarıyla ifade etmişlerdir. Bu bağlamda sporcu öğrenciler voleybolu öncelikle temel bir ihtiyaç olarak görmektedirler. Bu durum, özellikle kadın milli takımımızın göstermiş olduğu başarının bu alanda belirleyici bir rol oynadığı ve kadın sporcuların hayatlarını önemli oranda etkilediği sonucuna varılmıştır. This study aimed to perform the postural evaluation of adolescent youth athletes who are trained in basketball, soccer, volleyball, and swimming branches. A total of 88 adolescent athletes (32 boys and 56 girls) with an average age of ±12.37 years, an average height of ±1.58 cm, an average body weight of ±48.2 kg, an average BMI of ±18.19 and an average training age of ±2.06 years from football, volleyball, and swimming branches actively active in Manisa and Bursa provinces participated in the study. Posture analysis of the athletes was performed using the Apecs-AI Posture Evaluation and Correction System® mobile posture application. The data obtained from the athletes were evaluated with the NewYork Posture Assessment Test (NYPD). The data obtained from the study were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 package program. One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used for independent samples. According to the results of the analysis, there was a significant difference between training age and NYPD scores according to branches (p&lt;.05). Significance was found between NYPD and body axis scores in volleyball and soccer athletes (p&lt;.05). There was no difference between NYPD and other variables in swimming and basketball. In this regard, the authentic leadership approach is thought to be an important explainer of psychological capital, which is one of the personality traits that contribute to the productivity of employees. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the effect of authentic leadership on psychological capital. In this research, the relational screening model, one of the quantitative research approaches, was used. 270 people, 138 men (51.1%) and 132 women (48.9%), selected by convenience sampling method from among the people working in businesses providing sports services in Istanbul, participated in the research voluntarily. In the analysis of the data, through the SPSS package program; Pearson Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationships between variables, and regression analysis was used to determine the effect of authentic leadership on psychological capital. It has been observed that there is a positive relationship between authentic leadership and psychological capital. In addition, regarding the main purpose of the research, it has been determined that authentic leadership has a positive effect on psychological capital. As a result, it was concluded that employees' authentic leadership characteristics have a significant impact on their psychological capital levels</p> <p>(Extended English summary is at the end of this document)</p> <p><strong>Özet</strong></p> <p>Otantik liderlik yaklaşımına sahip iş yerlerinin çalışanlara yüksek düzeyde güvenin yer aldığı koşullar oluşturduğu, çalışanlarının pozitif olmalarına ve kendilerini daha güçlü hissetmelerine katkıda bulunduğu bilinmektedir. Bu doğrultuda otantik liderlik yaklaşımının, çalışanların verimliliğine katkı sağlayan kişilik özelliklerinden biri olan psikolojik sermayenin önemli bir açıklayıcısı olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın amacı, otantik liderliğin psikolojik sermaye üzere etkisinin incelenmesidir. Bu araştırmada nicel araştırma yaklaşımlarından ilişkisel tarama modelinden faydalanılmıştır. Araştırmaya İstanbul’da spor hizmeti veren işletmelerde çalışan kişiler içinden kolayda örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen 138 Erkek (%51.1) 132 Kadın (%48.9) 270 kişi gönüllü olarak katılım göstermiştir. Verilerin analizinde SPSS paket programı aracılığıyla; değişkenler arasındaki ilişkileri belirlemek için Pearson Korelasyon analizi, otantik liderliğin psikolojik sermaye üzerine etkisini belirlemek için regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Otantik liderlik ile psikolojik sermaye arasında pozitif ilişki olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca araştırmanın temel amacına ilişkin olarak, otantik liderliğin psikolojik sermaye üzerine pozitif etkisi olduğu tespit edilmiştir. It is considered important to understand how emotion regulation dimensions affect these two problem areas, as one of the main factors underlying our psychological problems. In this study, it was aimed to determine how both intra and interpersonal emotion regulation strategies and difficulties in emotion regulation predict loneliness and shyness.</p> <p><strong>Method</strong>: For this aim, it was carried out with the participation of 462 people (58.4% women and 41.6% men; Rage:18-69; Mage: 28.08) from two different countries, Turkey (51.5%) and Pakistan (48.5%). It is quantitative research and descriptive and relational analyzes were made.</p> <p><strong>Findings</strong>: When the findings were examined, it was found that difficulties in emotion regulation predicted both loneliness and shyness. In terms of emotion regulation strategies, while ‘expressive suppression’ and ‘social modelling’ predicts loneliness; ‘expressive suppression’ and ‘enhancing positive affect’ seem to predict shyness. It was found that other emotion regulation strategies did not predict statistically significantly. In addition, the findings obtained according to the relevant demographic variables (according to gender, country, being in a romantic relationship, having a child/children) and emotion regulation strategies were discussed in the context of the relevant literature.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>As a result of the study, it was seen that there are emotion regulation types and strategies associated with loneliness and shyness.</p> Şehide Kelek, Erum Abid Awan, Mustafa Koç Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Human Sciences https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://www.j-humansciences.com/ojs/index.php/IJHS/article/view/6394 Tue, 02 Jul 2024 00:00:00 -0600 Urban morphology: An historico-geographical approach https://www.j-humansciences.com/ojs/index.php/IJHS/article/view/6484 <p><span data-contrast="auto">In this article, the foundation of urban morphology, the approaches to urban morphology, and the role of the ‘historical-geographical approach’ in planning practice are discussed. Firstly, the definition of urban morphology and its relevance is identified. Then, the short history of urban morphology is presented. The main approaches to urban morphology are addressed. Afterwards, the historical-geographical approach, whose theorist is M.R.G. Conzen, is focused on, and different concepts within this approach are introduced. These are, respectively, fringe belt, morphological region, burgage cycle, form complexes, morphological frame, and fixation line, to name the most important. The research group consists of 248 parents of disabled individuals who continue their education in special education schools and rehabilitation centers. The personal Information Form prepared by the researcher, the Family Resilience Scale (FYÖ), and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PIOS) were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics, Independent Sample T-Test, Pearson Correlation, and Regression analysis were used to analyze the data. When the research findings are examined, there is no significant difference between family resilience and psychological well-being levels according to sports activity; Positive and significant relationships were determined between psychological well-being and family resilience. Accordingly, it is seen that as the family resilience levels of the participants increase, their psychological well-being levels also increase. In this study, since there is no significant difference between family resilience and psychological well-being levels according to sports playing status, various demographic variables can be examined by taking into account.</p> <p>(Extended English summary is at the end of this document)</p> <p><strong>Özet</strong></p> <p>Bu çalışma engelli çocuğa sahip ebeveynlerin yılmazlık ve psikolojik iyi oluş özellikleri arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek amacıyla ele alınmıştır. Araştırma grubunu, Özel eğitim okulu ve rehabilitasyon merkezlerinde eğitimine devam eden 248 engelli birey ebeveyni oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama araçları olarak araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Aile Yılmazlık Ölçeği (AYÖ) ve Psikolojik İyi Oluş Ölçeği (PİOÖ) kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde Tanımlayıcı istatistikler, Independent Sample T-Testi, Pearson Korelasyon ve Regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları incelendiğinde, spor yapma durumuna göre, aile yılmazlık ve psikolojik iyi oluş düzeyleri arasında anlamlı farklılık bulunmazken; psikolojik iyi oluş ile aile yılmazlık arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı ilişkiler tespit edilmiştir. Buna göre, katılımcıların aile yılmazlık düzeyleri arttıkça psikolojik iyi oluş düzeylerinin de artış gösterdiği görülmektedir.
