We move the world.
About us
The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is a global, democratic trade union federation at the forefront of building power for transport workers. We fight passionately to improve working lives; connecting 740 trade unions from 150 countries to secure rights, equality and justice for our members. We are the voice of the almost 20 million transport workers who move the world. In a world of growing inequality, increasing attacks on human rights, rising authoritarianism, corruption, and corporate greed, we're united as a single voice of solidarity. We are standing up for our rights, shifting power capital to workers, and winning a just, equal and sustainable future for us all.

A big congratulations to the newly established women's committee at Syndicat Unique des Travailleurs des Transports Aériens et Activités Annexes du Sénégal. Last week we had two days of intense discussion, debate and strategising at the ITF-SASK Workshop on the Eradication of Violence and Harassment in Civil Aviation Sector in Senegal, culminating with the establishment of the committee. Women workers from across DSS airport have set an ambitious agenda to eradicate violence from their workplace and support the ratification of C190. Big congratulations to all the participants, new committee members and the mighty SUTTAAAS!

ITF is present at the Summit of the Future at the United Nation Headquarters in New York. In a significant moment at the summit, the UN General Assembly adopted the 'Pact of the Future' by consensus. This pact focuses on the future generations, ensuring that young people are part of decision-making processes at the UN and beyond. The Global Digital Compact which was passed at the summit includes efforts to address potential negative impacts of digital tech on labour & employment. The passing of Action 17 sees states commit to complying with the decisions & mandate of the International Court of Justice. #FutureOfWork #SOTF

The International Transport Workers’ Federation condemns the decision to sentence two seafarers to 30 years’ imprisonment, after drugs were found on a vessel docked in the Black Sea port of Ereğli, Turkey, in October last year. No fingerprints belonging to the crew were found on any of the bags containing drugs on the ship. Eight other members of the 20-person crew from the Philippines, Poland and Russia were also arrested and spent a year in prison, before all charges against them were dismissed at the hearing for lack of evidence. https://lnkd.in/ebz8ZByq

The public transport sector is the cornerstone of urban mobility, connecting people to each other and to opportunities, while promoting environmental sustainability and supporting economic growth. As a major employer, it also has the potential to make decent work a core pillar of decarbonisation. However, the growing challenge of a global workforce shortage threatens the future of reliable and efficient public transport systems. To address these challenges, the International Association of Public Transport UITP, in collaboration with the International Transport Workers Federation, has launched the Global Employment Data for Public Transport project, a global survey which aims to gather vital data on employment trends across the sector. https://lnkd.in/ezrikrxe

The maritime industry, a backbone of global trade, relies on the hard work of seafarers who navigate the world's oceans, ensuring goods are delivered efficiently. However, the demanding nature of this job often results in long hours, physical strain, and extended periods away from home, leading to significant fatigue. A critical issue that has emerged in recent years is the practice of requiring seafarers to perform additional tasks, such as lashing and unlashing cargo. This practice not only exacerbates fatigue but also raises serious safety concerns. To address this concern, the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) has, together with the Joint Negotiating Group (JNG), representing maritime employers, agreed to the Non-Seafarers’ Work Clause.
