Vanderbilt University Librarian Jon Shaw has been named a 2024 Education Champion by Amazon. The prestigious honor was announced as part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) IMAGINE conference held July 23–24 in Austin, Texas. Leading global health care knowledge provider BMJ has signed a new read-and-publish agreement with the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries that allows Vanderbilt-affiliated corresponding authors to publish their primary research open access without incurring article processing charges. In addition, the agreement grants affiliates full reading access to leading general medicine journal "The BMJ" and "BMJ Case Reports" and more than 30 specialty journals that are part of BMJ’s Premier Collection.

The latest "VU History" podcast features the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries exhibit "Retrocomputing," a showcase of the remarkable breakthroughs that took place during the early days of personal computing. Heard Libraries' Chief Digital Strategist Clifford Anderson is interviewed. The exhibit, originally on display at the Science and Engineering Library, can now be viewed in the Department of Computer Science in the Sony Building on campus.

The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries have acquired the personal collection of Dom Flemons through a collaboration with the National Museum of African American Music. Flemons is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and cultural historian whose music and research have brought greater awareness to African Americans’ extensive contributions to roots music.
