Let's goooooo, Sierra! -- “Write a poem about a sunrise.” I asked three AI chatbots—OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, Google’s Bard, and Anthropic’s Claude—and myself—an 8th grade human. I then surveyed a panel of 38 AI experts and 39 English experts to judge the results. Is AI smarter than an 8th grader? -- https://lnkd.in/geGz66MX

The podcast explores their 2018 project where they investigated a series of decades-old, unsolved murder cases in and around Tennessee. https://lnkd.in/g7XcVpRv Can you recall a teacher who used unique teaching methods or had a class project that was creative and different? On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the John C. Fremont High School students put in the hard work to help beautify the school! Shmoop's Jerome Carter was out there shoveling away alongside the students and leaders of the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) program. From Norma Spencer at BSAP: "The students at Fremont High School dedicated this special day to honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a meaningful act of service – school beautification. The impact of this experience extends beyond the physical enhancements; it leaves an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the students." #proudpartners #MLK #remembrance #embracechange #beautifyLA

“Standardized test scores are a much better predictor of academic success than high school grades,” Christina Paxson, the president of Brown University, recently wrote. Stuart Schmill — the dean of admissions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the few schools to have reinstated its test requirement — said, “Just getting straight A’s is not enough information for us to know whether the students are going to succeed or not.” -- Did your school drop the SAT/ACT? Have plans to bring it back? https://lnkd.in/gKwaG__y

https://lnkd.in/g3Z8VvQx On using generative AI as a tool for experiential learning and historical simulation by Benjamin Breen, an American historian of science and medicine and an Associate Professor of History at the University of California, Santa Cruz. "When given a list to choose from, 71% of the students surveyed said “ability to make choices and decisions as historical actors” was most beneficial to their learning in their class. And fully 84% of the class reported that AI historical simulations “greatly” or “somewhat” enhanced their overall understanding of the time period." "For now, I am making sure to tell my students that the simulations they experience will contain numerous historical inaccuracies. In fact, I make the act of discussing, fact checking, and reflecting on these inaccuracies a key part of the activity itself. Thinking about the unreliability of sources, after all, is a big part of what historians do."
