A new report by the International Labour Organization highlights how certain labor market challenges are driving rising inequalities. The study reveals that the global share of income earned by workers decreased by 0.6 percentage points from 2019 to 2022 and has since stabilized. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly contributed to this decline, with nearly 40% of the reduction in the labour income share occurring between 2020 and 2022. This crisis exacerbated existing inequalities, particularly as income from capital continues to concentrate among the wealthiest, hampering progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, the report shows that a significant portion of youth remains out of employment, education or training, with 28.2% of young women and 13.1% of young men in this situation.
