Damning report on #Lebanon from Fitch Ratings Ratings has affirmed Lebanon's Long-Term Foreign- and Local-Currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) at 'Restricted Default' (RD). Fitch has subsequently withdrawn Lebanon's IDRs and Country Ceiling. Fitch Ratings is withdrawing Lebanon's ratings as Fitch no longer has sufficient information to maintain the ratings due to the unavailability of certain key data. Accordingly, Fitch will no longer provide ratings (or analytical coverage) for Lebanon. These ratings are unsolicited and the issuer has no obligation to provide information.

My comments today on CNBC International on the reasons and consequences of Fitch Ratings withdrawing #Lebanon Rating. Absence of basic data: National Accounts, Budgetary, Fiscal and Debt, Balance of Payments & International Reserves, Monetary & #BDL accounts, for an economy with a zombie banking system, increasingly cash based and dollarised and politicians and policymakers unwilling to undertake reforms, despite the deepest financial crisis in history. https://lnkd.in/dDaxgZEk

The Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) posted a record surge in its assets under management during the first quarter of 2024, driven by an "unprecedented influx" of global asset managers establishing operations in the international financial centre. AUMs soared by 211 per cent annually in the three months ended March, as the number of operational entities rose by 30 per cent year-on-year to 1,950, including 291 financial services entities, ADGM said on Monday. The number of fund and asset managers operating at ADGM reached 107, which collectively manage 137 funds. While the west has almost completely halted capital investment in China, Middle East sovereigns continue to be active as Qatar's sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority acquires a 10% stake in China Asset Management Co., Ltd. Co., one of the nation’s largest mutual fund firms. The stake will be sold by leading Chinese private equity fund manager Primavera Capital Group, creating a rare exit in the current China private equity market! The Chinese mutual fund industry expanded to more than 30 trillion yuan ($4.1 trillion) in April even after a stock-market rout earlier in the year, and is poised to continue to achieve attractive forward growth driven by domestic demand, in spite of the slowdown in global foreign capital. in 2023, Dubai's off-plan market experienced a surge that saw prices grow by 30%. In August, they dropped by 4.2%. However, this stabilisation doesn't need to be a bad thing. In fact, I believe it could be a great opportunity for Dubai. This drop in prices stems from buyers becoming more discerning. With the interest rates starting to soften up and stalibilisation of prices, the market may see fringe players participating. However, focusing on mitigating project competition risks will be paramount and will drive more sustainable growth. Taking this opportunity will allow Dubai's real estate sector to become even stronger than before. Abu Dhabi's economy grew by an annualised 4.1% in the second quarter of this year, as robust growth in the non-oil sector. Growth was driven by Abu Dhabi’s non-oil sector, which expanded by 6.6% in the second quarter of 2024, reaching a record Dh164.2 billion. The manufacturing sector grew by 2.6% during the reporting period, with its quarterly value rising to Dh26.8 billion, or 9 per cent of the emirate’s GDP. The industrial sector has surged 21.7% since the launch of the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy in 2022, according to the government data. The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, revealed a 23.8% year-on-year increase in the number of certificates of origin issued between January and May 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. This significant growth reflects Abu Dhabi's expanding exports and underscores local efforts to boost trade opportunities and enhance the UAE’s global trade footprint. Bilateral commercial agreeement CEPAs have significantly contributed to driving the UAE’s economic growth, enhancing the access of Emirati businessmen to new foreign markets, expanding Abu Dhabi’s export portfolio, and facilitating the entry of Emirati exports into several major markets in the world, most notably India, Indonesia, Turkey, South Korea, and Malaysia. This includes a variety of products such as electronic equipment, machinery, metals, medicine, vegetable oils, and others.

The spread of populism is driving wealthy French and Italians into Dubai, buying property and growing the real estate market, including #brandedresidences. Interview on Al Arabiya News Channel Business with Maya Jureidini discussing precious metals and US markets: - The rally that started with gold in precious metals, is now dragging silver up, especially so that silver has practical usage in clean energy industries. However, for individual investors, gold might be a better choice. Remember, for $10,000 you can buy 4 ounces of gold (113 grams) or roughly 12 kilograms of silver. Which one is easier to store? - Copper is rallying on the back of Chinese demand, and industrial usage for the metal. We expect this play to be a longterm one, rather than a short term, and there will be dips, which are opportunities to buy, just like gold - China's real estate market is the biggest in the world, and for the Chinese economy to get back on track, the real estate situation has to stabilize, which the Chinese Government is taking the right actions to boost. The #UAE ranked second worldwide for #Greenfield Foreign Direct Investment (#FDI) projects: In 2023, the UAE achieved an impressive 1,280 greenfield FDI projects, trailing only behind the United States. This represents a remarkable 36% year-on-year growth, elevating the UAE from fifth place in 2022 to second place globally. #Dubai led the charge, retaining its position as the top city globally with 1,036 projects, a 32% increase year-on-year. #AbuDhabi also made significant strides, ranking 6th with 172 projects, marking a substantial 74% growth. Total FDI capital inflows into the UAE surged by 33% year-on-year, reaching USD 15.08 billion. Dubai attracted the largest share with USD 6.81 billion, followed by Abu Dhabi with USD 4.48 billion and Sharjah with USD 2.75 billion.
