A Study of the Age of #Menopause and #MenopausalSymptoms among Women in a Rural Area of Tamil Nadu, India A cross-sectional study of 500 women aged 40-55 years who naturally attained menopause and experienced cessation of menses for over a year. Women with surgical menopause or menopause due to illness were excluded. A self-structured questionnaire gathered data. Mean Menopause Age: 45.75 ± 3.83 years. Symptoms: 87% had at least one symptom, with psychosomatic symptoms (78.2%) being the most common, followed by vasomotor symptoms (55.8%). Attitudes: 68.4% had a positive attitude toward menopause. 19.4% were indifferent. 12.2% had a negative attitude. 24% found menopausal symptoms distressing. 23.2% sought treatment for symptoms. Menopausal symptoms, particularly psychosomatic, were common, but many women coped well. Factors such as lack of awareness, myths, and access to health services influence negative perceptions of menopause. Promoting awareness, dispelling myths, and improving access to healthcare can change negative attitudes and improve quality of life. #ClinicalSignificance: Menopause causes several symptoms that can be distressing for some women. Age and symptoms of menopause vary and are influenced by many factors. Creating awareness about menopausal symptoms can lead to better healthcare utilization and improved quality of life for postmenopausal women. #Recommendations: Public health initiatives like health camps, counseling, and grassroots health workers can improve awareness and access to healthcare. Community-based data can be used to shape health programs that address the needs of postmenopausal women at a larger scale.
