In 2008, HP emerged (first time in the history of the company) on the list at #18, jumped to #12 in 2009 and then #10 in 2010.

The Federal Communications Commission has updated the definition of broadband internet for the first time in nearly a decade. Previously, #broadband was defined as download speeds of 25Mbps and upload speeds of 3Mbps. The new definition raises the minimum to 100Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. As of late 2022, around 45 million Americans lacked access to the new 100/20Mbps broadband speeds over fixed #internet or #5G mobile connections. By redefining broadband at higher speeds, the FCC may take regulatory action to expand availability to underserved areas. Funding programs for broadband expansion could also be impacted by the higher benchmark. Looking further ahead, the FCC set a long-term target of 1000Mbps download and 500Mbps upload to stay ahead of growing bandwidth demands from new technologies. The FCC majority believes faster speeds are now required to ensure all Americans can access critical online services and applications in the modern era.
