LHH Recruitment Solutions has a Senior Manager for worldwide Import/Export opening for our client in the Baltimore, MD area! This direct hire role allows you to utilize your mastery experience of import/export with a primary focus on the building materials industry. Qualified candidates will have an expansive background in ensuring exact documentation and record keeping is in place for all import/export activities, as well as building a team of import/export specialists. You will be a critical component in being the voice of the organization in identifying and creating opportunities of improvement through data driven insight and staying on top of all legal requirements applicable. You will also be responsible for fostering a proactive collaborative global team environment through clear and consistent communication with other global entities as well as vendors and contractors.


This is a high travel role with an expected 50-65% travel requirement domestically for now, and internationally in the near future – candidates MUST be able and willing to travel internationally as well as willing and able to obtain a passport. Successful candidates will have import/export audit experience also. This on-site position requires a Bachelor’s Degree within either Global Logistics and/or Business Management. Ideal candidates will have a MINIMUM of 10 years’ experience managing global import/export in the building materials industry as well as team management.


Salary range: $140,000.00 to $150,000.00.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership, management, and guidance of the North American Import/Export division.
  • Identify needs of division and compose, maintain, train, and enforce company policies and procedures as they relate to international trade compliance.
  • Generate ideas, resolve issues, manage transportation problems, and participate in strategies to expand import/export sales.
  • At minimum partake in, most likely lead contract negotiations with contractors, vendors, foreign customers, and freight companies.
  • Distribute any needed/required information and also train on organizational product availability, pricing changes, and any technical information required from foreign vendors.
  • Manage and maintain relationships and compliance with cross collaboration with vendors, forwarders, brokers, suppliers, and/or staff.
  • Maintain clear and consistent documented communications between foreign vendors and customers.
  • Manage approvals of confirmations of freight and understand delays that may occur – be able to report upon delays as needed.
  • Collaborate with the pricing department to ensure the annual review of import/export costs, quotes, price, shipment booking, and margin to maximize volume and profit goes smoothly.
  • Manage processing of all purchase orders and arrange logistics for import/export into and out of the United States.
  • Track order availability dates and shipping containers as well as track and update ETD, ETA dates and ensure accuracy of Buy, Sell, Move (BSM) software.
  • Oversee and participate in tariff determinations and audits as required.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with licenses, contracts, and agreements as needed.
  • Assure import document compliance and retention control management, including but not limited to – reviews and audits of Entry Summary (7501) as well as freight forwarder invoices.
  • Manage preparing and review of all documents including Proforma, SLI, Packing List, CI, COO, and updating BSM software system as needed.
  • Manage and process invoices and approve for payment as needed.
  • Communicate with warehouses on storage planning and container deliveries, including verification of container contents to packing list.
  • Manage inventory and aged inventory.
  • Respond to product inquiries from sales department and support/train customer service teams providing guidance and leadership.
  • Identify a need for, creation of and produce reports for month.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in global logistics management or similar is required.
  • Global import/export certifications highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 65% domestically and internationally required.
  • Audit experience required.
  • Firm understanding and proven experience in dealing with global supply chain delivery through ocean and air required.
  • Current and willingness to stay up to date on laws and regulations overseeing import/export of goods and products between the United States and foreign countries required.
  • Understanding and know-how of currency conversions as well as unit of measurements in foreign countries.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to respond promptly and professionally to vendor or freight forwarder needs regardless of time.
  • Identify and develop processes and procedures to prevent future issues as needed.
  • Ability to participate and know how of tariff code determinations and record retentions.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in global import/export management as well as team management.
  • Proven clear and concise communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively a team environment.
  • Familiarity with JDEdwards and Salesforce a plus.
  • Must be willing to undergo background clearance check and maintain approved status.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated product and customer facing/client environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
