They Come in Threes Ok. Apparently, human beings have lost the capability of successfully navigating the earth's waterways resulting in two reported collisions of ships with bridges inside a week. First Responders had better dust off their playbook for this scenario. The incident in Baltimore allowed officers 90 seconds to respond. They did so by blocking vehicular traffic, in turn saving countless lives. Having one critical event like this is an anomaly. Two represents a repeat. Emergency Management teams should carefully look into both the Oklahoma and Baltimore mishaps during an aftermath assessment with nothing being taken off the table. On May 11, 2021, inspectors from Michael Baker International discovered a fracture in the Hernando de Soto Bridge during a routine inspection. This bridge is crucial for transportation, commerce, and defense, carrying about 60,000 vehicles daily. The inspectors immediately contacted local authorities to shut down all traffic for safety. A three-phase emergency repair plan was implemented. Phase 1 involved temporary stabilization plating and was completed by May 25, 2021. Phase 2 used post-tensioning and bolting repairs, finishing by July 3, 2021. Phase 3 addressed additional defects and was completed by July 31, 2021. All lanes were reopened by August 2, 2021. This year marks the three-year anniversary of the bridge's reopening. Learn more about the emergency repair process in the video below. #BridgeRepair #Infrastructure #EmergencyResponse #EngineeringExcellence

The National Institute of Fire Protection and Safety has curated this vlog to augment the knowledge of fire and safety personnel regarding BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion). The vlog delves into a tragic incident involving a propane tank explosion, resulting in the loss of life and injuries among volunteer firefighters and other emergency responders. It underscores the importance for firefighters and emergency responders to comprehend the concept of BLEVE, recognize its warning signs, and grasp the appropriate actions to take when combating a tank fire that could potentially lead to a BLEVE. Furthermore, firefighters should be equipped to discern when to employ defensive firefighting techniques. Think 2x very carefully before thinking or saying that the old bombs can do no harm. Take precautions to request an explosives pre-examination before starting your building project. BTW this is a ‘controlled’ blast, so with evacuation and necessary safety measures. https://lnkd.in/eV_BbATC

When working at heights in any industry or doing climbing as free time activity, it is very important to double check those elements, which will impact the outcome in case of possible fall!!! It does not take much time if you learn it to have it as habit but it will help lot to stay safe. Always DOUBLE CHECK - - when removing some of the fall arrest or positioning equipment for yourself or casualty in case of rescue, - is there other equipment in place, which will work in case of fall? Is that equipment properly placed and adjusted? Always, before removing fall arrest equipment check if you are attcached somewhere else! - when using anchor points - will that point hold? - during rescue - is casualty attached as necessarry? When removing equipment of casualty, do not accidentally mix it with your equipment, especially if they are same colour! - are carabiners closed? If using carabiners with manual screw lock, ALWAYS have habit to check if they are closed and keep habit to check them now and then. If using double lock carabiners - check if they cannot accidentaly press against something an open. -if there would be fall, is there not any object or ledge close enough? Consider how long can be potential fall before fall arrest eqipment works! DOUBLE CHECK. Keep it as habit. Experience shows that it is very necessary. #workingatheight #climbing #ropeaccess #safetyatwork #rockclimbing #arborist #windturbines

Daily Safety Tip for Contractors = Will the anchor point selected for your personal-fall-arrest system support the weight of a full-size pick-up truck? Anchors used to attach personal fall arrest equipment must be: * Independent of any anchorage being used to support or suspend platforms. * Capable of supporting at least 5,000 pounds per employee attached. A good way to remember this is to ask yourself if the anchorage would support/suspend a full-sized pickup truck (roughly 5,000 pounds). #ancorpoint #fall-arrest
