The euro is the second most used currency in the world.  And Europeans actively champion and support it!    We asked your views about our common currency. And here are some highlights:    💶 79% of respondents living in the euro area think that having the euro is a good thing for our Union. 🇸🇰 stands out with 90% and 🇫🇮 with 88%.  💶 69% think that having the euro is good for their country.   💶 66% are in favour of abolishing 1- and 2-euro cent coins and applying mandatory up- and down-rounding of the final sum of purchase.    The euro has become an enduring symbol of European unity and integration since 2002 – and we want it to continue to be so for the generations to come.    📊 Data collected in the latest Eurobarometer with almost 20.000 respondents in the 19 eurozone countries: https://europa.eu/!B4kdtK   #Euro #EuropeanUnion

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the euro, the official currency of the European Union. The euro has been a symbol of European integration and a pillar of economic and financial stability. . The European Union’s official currency – the euro – has marked its 25th year of life today, on January 1, 2024. It is estimated that currently, about 350 million citizens use the Euro in 20 countries of the Eurozone. . Currently, there are 20 EU and Schengen Area countries using the Euro as their official currency: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain. . Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City also use the Euro based on monetary agreements with the EU. At the same time, Kosovo and Montenegro both have adopted the euro as their currency, in spite of not being part of the EU or the Schengen Zone yet. . The EU member states which have not yet joined the Eurozone are Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Sweden. . The Euro’s 25th year of existence has not been the ideal one, as the currency marked its lowest trade levels this year near $1.05, down by three per cent compared to the American dollar in the third quarter of 2023. . Germany and the Netherlands to be the only countries to have gained benefits from the euro's introduction, according to a report by the Centre for European Policy (CEP) based in Freiburg, Germany. Germany gained almost €1.9 trillion between 1999 and 2017 as a result of the euro's introduction, the new currency created an additional €23,000 per inhabitant. Researchers Alessandro Gasparotti and Matthias Kullas on Monday published their study "20 Years of the Euro: Winners and Losers," which uses a "synthetic control method" to analyze which countries have gained from the euro and which ones have lost out. Outside of Germany and the Netherlands, the trend for the Eurozone bloc was a drop in prosperity. In France, this fall amounted to €3.6 trillion and in Italy €4.3 trillion. These reductions equate to €56,000 and €74,000 per capita respectively. One of the reasons for the drop in prosperity was international competitiveness, according to the report. Two-thirds – or more – of respondents in Hungary (67%) and Romania (70%) think that, for them personally, the introduction of the euro would have positive consequences. This view is also shared by more than half of respondents in Sweden (57%).
