"Don't you know that every kick is a boost?" <- what Rue McClanahan's (Blanche Devereaux on Golden Girls) mother said after Rue was told she would never work on television. Golden Girls, of course, went on to win numerous awards and continues to play on television 40 years later. What is the lesson from this? One takeaway for me is that someone else's opinion of your capabilities is not prophetic. You CAN be successful regardless of others' opinions. Secondly, rejection and setbacks are an inevitable part of your career journey. Use these setbacks as springboards to take you to greater heights. Lastly, may we all do our best to give more boosts. This is fab! The message is of profound importance. I also love the creative use of theatrical staging. The switching between who is speaking whose words. It shifts the perspective of the audience, it forces us to consider things in a new way. It is also worth noting their use of space. The way the physically switch at the start, and then switch back at the end. It seems like a small point, but it is vital in clarifying to the audience what is happening through the talk, and the reality of things at the end. https://lnkd.in/e_g8nQj6

It’s Not Where You Start 🏈 Let’s do some film study. 📽️ Pay close attention to the second embrace between Deion Sanders & Rick George. [[Backstory: Rick George publicly admitted to signing Deion Sanders to a $29.5 million contract in December with money he didn’t yet have. Fast forward to now, and they have already raised over $28 million dollars, so I know why Rick is so happy. 🤣]] Now on to Deion… That’s an NFL HOF’er and arguably the greatest athlete of all time expressing…wait for it… GRATITUDE 🤲 • Coach Prime already had money. • Coach Prime already had prestige. • Coach Prime already had respect. …but something had been missing as evidenced by the second embrace Deion initiated followed by the emphatic “thank you!” Here’s my take on it: If you’ve ever been denied something you felt you were deserving of, only to have someone take a chance on you and it actually work out… Then you know what Deion is feeling. I’ve been there. 🙋🏽♂️ It’s not always about the money or prestige. In fact, at the top of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs reigns “self-actualization” as chief in importance. 🔺 In other words, the desire to achieve one’s full potential. Although you can’t put a price on that, $28M towards an I.O.U. sure does help. 🤑 College football fans were the real winners here. Great effort by both teams. #motivationmonday #linkedinsports #INWYS
