Racing drivers often don't make great road drivers. Safe progress around corners is all about visibility, not clipping the apex which is a common myth. I quietly grimace when people tell me how they "clip the apex" on public roads. Let me state this … "racing lines" are for race tracks. Effective and safe cornering on public roads is actually far more complex as there are more unknowns, possibilities and permutations on every corner. It’s another skill set entirely. #forgettheapex #advanceddriving #driverperformance Join DM for advanced driving tips each week https://lnkd.in/eQbmQsBd

June 25th was the annual, iconic "Race to the Clouds" - the race up Pikes Peak. Ever since it was first won by an electric car, I've been drawn to this race. The race pinnacle is at 14,115 feet (4.3 Km), which means that battery electric drivetrains have a unique advantage, since they don't depend on high oxygen counts for combustion like internal combustion engines do. "As the drivers climb toward the summit, the thin air slows reflexes and saps competitor’s mental and muscle strength in addition to robbing internal combustion engines of up to 30% of the power they are capable of at the Start Line." This seems to be the year of the electric pickup truck, as both a Rivian R1T and a Ford Lightning will race this year. There are two Hyundai Ionic 5 N entries too. I keep hoping a Class 8 electric truck (or two or three) will take a stab at the mountain. That would be incredible! Edit: results are in! https://lnkd.in/dJq837GE EVs shatter records at Pike’s Peak: Ioniq 5N, Rivian and Ford SuperTruck impress https://lnkd.in/dHy8yJNW #StopBurningStuff

No company is perfect and there are a lot of companies that don't even do the bare minimum for their employees. I grew up seeing more than one employer unfairly treat my Dad with less than grace and dignity. So seeing Roush Yates Engines do meaningful gestures such as this where they honor the lives of employees means a lot and goes a long way. One of the fun parts of my job is to help share the story of things like this that our company does. #Team | #Employees | #SocialMedia | #NASCAR
After each NASCAR race win, we hang the Sunoco Race Fuels checkered flag on the walls of our engine and manufacturing facilities to celebrate each Ford Performance engine win. What many might not know about this tradition, if an employee passes away, we honor the family by sending them the most recent checkered flag. We then hang an empty frame with an engraved note of the employee’s name, “in loving memory.” Our employees are family and our greatest asset; we value and appreciate their time with us and they will always be part of our team! #NASCAR | #FordPerformance | #Manufacturing | Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions

Generic EV race cars with painted on brand names are a bad idea, just like for ICE powered racers. Competing on the track has always been about driver skill and team/manufacturer technology and engineering. One make series are never fan magnets. NASCAR needs to open up their series to ANY manufacturer of EV’s so that new upstart electric vehicle companies can showcase their products in front of American race fans. Rivian y’all?

MOVEdot meets Wavey Dynamics.: *requesting your questions to be answered!* I am glad to announce that I am partnering with Jahee Campbell-Brennan to create a video series on: RACE vs PASSENGER CARS: EXPLORING THE DUALITY In this series we will discuss the contrasting engineering requirements between race and passenger cars. Having myself migrated from motorsports to passenger car development, I find it fascinating discussing the differences, always backed by vehicle dynamics knowledge. In our first episode we will discuss TIRE REQUIREMENTS AND TIRE PERFORMANCE for race vs passenger tires. Leave below your questions or topics so that Jahee and I can talk about it in the video!

#GRRhistoric #video. Grand Prix racing before Formula 1, before the Second World War, was absolutely mental: the speeds were unbelievable, the power was off the charts, the machinery was otherworldly. #goodwood #goodwoodelevenses The Goodwood Group #autos #autosport #automotive #automotiveindustry #cars #racing #sports #classiccar #classiccars #motorracing #motorsport

My wife, Danna Van Noy, and I race a Porsche 991.2 Cup Car and coach each other after each event. Following our race with Porsche Owners Club (POC) at Buttonwillow Raceway, we thought it would be fun to narrate my race together, with her asking me questions like, "What were you thinking there?!" "Why are you getting passed??!!" We describe what goes through a racer's mind at the start, the first corner, and all the racecraft from start to finish. We cover tire degradation, driver fatigue, minimizing mistakes, capitalizing on others' mistakes, and driving at the limit for an entire sprint race. July 4th, 1895: the United States’ first automotive race was to be held in Chicago. Enamored with the idea that motorized vehicles would soon overtake the horse-drawn carriage, businessman and Chicago-Times Herald publisher, Herman Henry Kohlsaat, proposed a race to demonstrate the new technology and celebrate the newspaper’s fiftieth anniversary. Aiming to capitalize on holiday crowds in the city, he intended for it to be held on Independence Day. At the time, there was no term for this type of machine, so the Herald invited readers to propose a new one. The racing machines became known as “motocycles.” The date was postponed after the competitors requested more time to prepare their machines, and it was eventually held on November 28, 1895—a cold and snowy Thanksgiving Day. Of the original 80 entrants, only six motocycles were present, and just two finished the race. The winner (pictured) was J. Frank Duryea of the Duryea Motor Wagon Company, who completed the 54-mile course in just under 8 hours, averaging a speed of 7 miles per hour. This pioneering event was a catalyst for further public interest in automobiles, leading to future industry publications and eventual formation of societies like SAE International in 1905, which continue to drive automotive innovation today. Happy Independence Day to our US-based colleagues! #automotiveindustry #innovation #history (source: https://lnkd.in/ey79N3U2)
