Pride Month is about acceptance, equality and celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people. But it isn’t just about the Pride Month flags, the LGBTQ+ Pride Month facts or Pride Month resources because LGBTQ+ inclusion should take place 365 days of the year. Making assumptions on sexuality, gender and sex, based on heteronormative ideas is not acceptable. Our plays share example of unacceptable behaviour at work or school. We work hard to educate, inspire and ignite discussions. Allyship in the workplace is crucial for inclusion and equality. Research shows that having just one strong ally can help reduce the possibility of suicidal thoughts of LGBTQ+ people by 40%. June is not just time for celebration, it’s also a time to raise awareness of issues that might be experienced being part of the LGBTQIA+. Just finished an amazing course on LinkedIn Learning called "Creating Equity for LGBTQ+" 🏳️🌈 As a soon-to-be graduate, I'm passionate about entering a workplace that's inclusive and celebrates diversity. This course helped me understand the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion and creating social equity in a workplace setting. As Pride Month 2024 comes to a close, it's crucial to reflect on the progress made and the work that lies ahead in supporting the LGBTQ+ community. While June has been a time of celebration and visibility, our commitment to equality and inclusion must extend beyond this designated month. Moving forward, we should focus on: 1. Advocacy: Continue to push for legislative changes that protect LGBTQ+ rights and combat discrimination. 2. Education: Promote ongoing learning about LGBTQ+ history, experiences, and challenges to foster understanding and empathy. 3. Workplace inclusion: Implement and strengthen policies that ensure equal opportunities and safe environments for LGBTQ+ employees. 4. Support LGBTQ+ organizations: Contribute time, resources, or skills to organizations working year-round for LGBTQ+ equality. 5. Amplify LGBTQ+ voices: Create platforms and opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals to share their stories and perspectives. 6. Challenge discrimination: Speak out against prejudice and support those facing harassment or unfair treatment. Remember, true allyship is an ongoing commitment. We wish you all a happy Pride Month from the SHE Team 🙌 Being inclusive of members of the LGBTQ+ community must move beyond statements of support and a month of celebrations – it involves actively creating practices, and a culture that affirms and supports the rights and wellbeing of all employees regardless of their sexuality, gender identity or expression. It is essential to understand and honour the history of pride and to respect the lived experiences and struggles of the community 🏳️🌈 If companies intend to meaningfully participate with and support pride, they must foster impactful and lasting change for their LGBTQ+ employees. This is not something that can occur overnight, but requires continuous efforts as a part of a larger DEI strategy.
