【Analysis of the Drought Impact as an Extreme Climatic Event in Sudan】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gf-MzWfP (Authored by Awad Hussien, from Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, China.) Drought is a complicated phenomenon that affects socioeconomic and agricultural activities in major ways. One of the most important metrics for tracking meteorological droughts is precipitation. Several studies have shown that long-term monthly precipitation data, together with the Standardized Precipitation Index (#SPI), may be used to forecast when droughts or heavy rains would occur. This study employs high-resolution Climate Hazards Group Infrared Precipitation with Station (#CHIRPS) data to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution of #rainfall in Sudan from 2001 to 2015, and investigates drought as an extreme climatic event in Sudan by utilizing the #Anomaly and Standard Precipitation Index (SPI).

【The Performance of Small Diameter Aluminum Light Support Structures Containing Handholes under Cyclic Fatigue】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gPMVAiM6 (Authored by Cameron R. Rusnak, et al., from Lincoln University of Missouri (USA), etc.) #Light_poles are essential to modern infrastructure. A critical aspect of light pole design and construction is the electrical access #handhole placed near the base of the pole, which may represent a potential failure location. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of aluminum light poles conducted at the University of Akron, which conducts an experimental program involving aluminum light poles with handholes containing welded inserts in order to gain a better understanding of their fatigue life, mechanical behavior, and failure mechanisms. #Cyclic_Fatigue #Finite_Element_Analysis #Statistical_Analysis

【Effects of Imazethapyr-Based Herbicide Formulation in the Zebrafish (Danio rerio) Hepatocyte Cell Line (ZF-L): Cytotoxicity and Oxidative Stress】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gMQHMKkB (Authored by Edila Maria Kickhöfel Ferrer, et al., from Federal University of Pelotas (UFPEL) (Brazil), etc.) The intensive and indiscriminate use of #agrochemicals contributes to contamination not only of food but also of various environmental compartments such as soil, water, and air. Herbicide formulations containing the active ingredient imazethapyr (IMZT) are widely used in the agricultural sector in various countries. This herbicide is recommended for pre- or post-emergence control of weed plants in crops such as rice, soybeans, among others. This study evaluates the in vitro cytotoxicity and oxidative stress caused by a formulation containing the seized herbicide imazethapyr (IMZT) in the Southern region of Brazil, using the ZF-L cell line derived from the normal liver tissue of #zebrafish (Danio rerio). #Cell Viability #Oxidative_Damage

【CT Thresholds for Spinal Bone Mineral Attenuation to Prioritize Eligible Older Women for Osteoporosis Screening】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/g5KuvDHM (Authored by Seo Yeon K. Orite, et al., from St. Elizabeth's Medical Center (USA), etc.) #Osteoporosis, which is defined as low bone mass, is a major public health concern. Computed tomography (CT) measurements of #bone_mineral_attenuation may be a useful means to identify older women who should be prioritized for bone mineral density screening. This study compares bone mineral attenuation as measured in the L1 vertebra of CT studies to the results of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) studies to determine what #CT attenuation thresholds might yield a reasonable combination of sensitivity and specificity for the detection of osteoporosis. DEXA of the lumbar spine and hips is currently the gold standard in diagnosing osteoporosis.

【Extensive Bi-Atrial Remodeling on Hypertensive Patient with Permanent Atrial Fibrillation Delayed Diagnosis of Fatal Cardiac Lambda Amyloidosis】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gdjcdst4 (Authored by Houzéiph Abdou Lassissi, et al., from Centre Hospitalier Nord Mayenne (France), etc.) Amyloidosis is caused by the deposition and accumulation of "amyloid fibrils" in tissues. Cardiac light-chain #amyloidosis is a medical emergency. As echocardiograph findings of cardiac amyloidosis mimic hypertensive and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis is often delayed. This paper reports a case of an 88-year-old hypertensive female patient with sustained atrial fibrillation and recurrent #heart_failure who was finally diagnosed as the stage 3B cardiac amyloidosis secondary to lambda light chain myeloma, highlighting the importance of an early diagnosis of cardiac light chain amyloidosis. #Monoclonal_Gammopathy

【Temperature Drop of Molten Metals in Open Channels】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gVrCUZQC (Authored by Miguel A. Barron-Meza and Joan Reyes-Miranda, from Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana Azcapotzalco, Mexico.) For a long time, the vast majority of studies on open channels have focused on the design and analysis of channels, whether natural such as streams and rivers, or constructed by humans. Actually, the transportation of molten metals and slags through open channels is an economical way to carry these materials from one place to another in the plant in metallurgical industries. This study focuses on the #temperature_drop of #molten_metals flowing in open channels, considering three #open_channel_geometries: rectangular, trapezoidal and triangular. #Free_Surface #Heat_Transfer

【Allogenic Stem Cell Transplantation and COVID-19 Antibodies: Mechanistic Insights and Recipient Concerns】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gvzveVwy (Authored by Amna Umer, et al., from Pak-American Hospital Pvt. Ltd. (Pakistan), etc.) As we all know, one excellent source of #stem_cells is the human umbilical cord donated by the pregnant females, the importance of stem cells derived from umbilical cord tissue lies in their abundance, multipotency, immunomodulatory properties, low immunogenicity, and paracrine effects, all of which contribute to their therapeutic potential in stem cell therapy for various medical conditions and diseases. Meanwhile, studies suggest that #antibodies from the mother pass through the umbilical cord to protect the infant against infections. This study explores the critical issue of donor sample #COVID-19 antibody status, focusing on donors who provide Wharton's jelly-derived umbilical cord stem cells, aiming to know the complex relationship among antibodies, donors, and future recipients. #Vaccination #Allogeneic
