Former computer science student turned tech billionaire Vitalik Buterin visited Waterloo last week to discuss cryptocurrency, innovation and the math behind the blockchain. Buterin also distinguished between early-stage technologies (like cryptocurrency, AI and space travel) and later-stage technologies (like the pharmaceutical industry), arguing that early-stage technologies are an ideal space for ambitious thinking, innovation and employing pure math, engineering and science. I have a question for him. Why is my etherium worthless (lol)!? What do I even do with it? It's not a currency - it never was. This is why I stayed away from crypto all-together from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, Vitalik Buterin is brilliant, he's a genius. I've just never understood the use-case for crypto if I can't exchange it for goods & services so it's highly inaccurate to call it a "currency". And the current financial system we have in place already ensures 100% secure, fast transfers without consuming the electric grid of an entire small country (as crypto does with its data-center usage). So I'm not understanding the energy economics of using crypto either; compared to existing systems in place that already function efficiently, accurately. Wish I could have attended this talk.
Waterloo is one of the best in Computer Science. It's great to see one of their alumni sharing with the students. What an inspiration!!
Always love to see the connections back to UW that I had no idea about. Amazing to see UW Alumni sharing and inspiring future UW grads.

The fundamental problem now days seems to be people dont know what Pyramid schemes are & how they function.
