The MDX Welcome Fund

The MDX Welcome Fund is an initiative by Middlesex University (MDX) to support undergraduate students who are applying to the university through the Clearing process. This fund is designed to help these late-cycle applicants settle into university life more smoothly.

What is the MDX Welcome Fund?

Off-Peak Gym Membership

Students receive a year's off-peak membership to the Fitness Pod, the on-campus gym. This gives students access to fitness facilities during off-peak hours throughout the academic year. 

£50 Welcome Fund

Students are given £50 to spend as they see fit. This amount can be used for various necessities or treats, such as: 

  • Up to 15 coffees at the MDX Costa café OR  
  • 14 meal deals from the on-campus Coop OR
  • 9 daily TFL bus passes for commuting OR 
  • 2 off-peak student tickets to Thorpe Park Resort. 

Eligibility

The fund is available to UK students (fee-assessed home students) who are applying for undergraduate courses starting in September 2024.

The students must apply through Clearing, accept a Clearing offer within 7 days, and complete their enrolment by 20 September 2024 (date subject to confirmation).

The fund is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and may be withdrawn once course capacities are reached.

How do I apply?

There is no application necessary. Clearing applications will be assessed and where the criteria is met, you will be informed of a provisional allocation. Successful allocation will be based on completing all aspects of the eligibility criteria.

Criteria

  1. Students will only be eligible for an award if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • Starting an undergraduate degree for the first time at Middlesex University in September 2024
  • Firmly accepted the University’s programme offer
  • Fee assessed as a Home student paying full-time fees of £9,250 per year
  • Studying full-time
  • Studying at our Hendon campus with fees of £9,250 per year

The MDX Welcome Fund excludes those studying:

  • Via online or distance learning
  • Part time

Application process

  1. There is no application necessary. Middlesex University will notify successful students of the provisional allocation during Clearing 2024. Successful allocation will be based on completing all aspects of the eligibility criteria including firm acceptance of a place and enrolment. Payments for the Welcome Fund will be made by December 2024 as long as students provide the required details when requested and are still enrolled at the time of payment. All communication will be sent by email.

Payment details

  1. Awarded students will receive a payment into their chosen bank account. We will request the student’s bank details once successful students have fully enrolled. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure the bank details they provide to the University are correct. Incorrect bank details may cause delays in payment. If bank details have not been provided by the end of the first term, the award will be cancelled without further warning.
  1. Payment of the cash award will be made via BACS in December 2024.
  1. The award payment will not be made if you have overdue debt to Middlesex University - this includes not having Student Finance in place.

Gym membership

  1. The MDX Welcome Fund includes off peak gym membership at the Fitness Pod, the Middlesex University on campus fitness centre for the academic year. Off peak membership allows gym access 6:15am - 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 5pm on the weekend. The off peak gym membership for the academic year is available between September 2024 and May 31 2025. A voucher will be emailed to successful students and they will be able to show this email and their student ID to the Fitness Pod reception to claim their free membership. We will endeavour to share this as early as possible in September but some students will not receive this until October.

General terms and conditions

  1. The award will be paid in academic year 2024/25. It will not be renewed or extended beyond this term to cover repeat modules or years.
  1. Any package awarded is subject to you successfully enrolling on a course at Middlesex University in 2024/25 and committing to the full academic calendar.
  1. If an awardee decides to change programmes, the student will be entitled to keep the award provided that the new course and mode of study still meet the eligibility criteria. All changes must be approved by the Director of Student Marketing and UK Recruitment.
  1. If an awardee decides to withdraw, the award will terminate at the date of withdrawal. Any payments made to the student will not need to be returned.
  1. The package cannot be exchanged for an alternative award.
  1. If the student’s status changes during their study, as a result of information not being provided at the point of application, and the student becomes ineligible, Middlesex University reserves the right to revoke the MDX Welcome Fund and claim back any payments incorrectly made to you.
  1. If a student breaks Middlesex University regulations and is withdrawn from study, the fund will be immediately If the student returns to study at a later date, the MDX Welcome Fund will not be re-awarded.
  1. Successful students may be asked to provide a testimonial promoting Middlesex University. There may be paid opportunities in addition to this to promote the university and these will be communicated via email.
  1. Middlesex University reserves the right to verify applications and request additional.
  1. If you are in receipt of welfare benefits and begin a course; money from scholarships and bursaries can affect your benefit entitlement as it may be treated as income. This depends on what the fund is intended to support you with, i.e. study related costs or living costs. Starting a course is a change of circumstance and you should inform all relevant benefit offices when you enrol.
  1. A complaint is normally a specific concern related to a procedural error, irregularity, or maladministration in admissions procedures or policies. If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the administration of your MDX Welcome Fund, please contact us in the first instance so that an informal resolution can be sought.
