AWARD-WINNING EDITOR & PODCASTER JASON FIELDS JOINS NEWSWEEK AS DEPUTY OPINION EDITOR

Newsweek's Global Editor-in-Chief Nancy Cooper today announced that Jason Fields is joining the news organization as Deputy Opinions Editor, with a remit to heighten liberal voices and perspectives within the site's "The Debate" section. Fields, who most recently served as Deputy Editor at The Week, is a noted writer, editor, and photographer who has worked for some of the world's best-known publications in his near-30-year career, including The Associated Press, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. His previous work includes stints as Opinion Editor for Reuters and Managing Editor of Reuters.com. His work has won multiple awards.

"Jason will bring fresh voices and views from the left, expanding Newsweek's offerings across the political and cultural spectrum," said Nancy Cooper. "He's a wonderful complement to Opinion Editor Josh Hammer and we're delighted to welcome him to 'The Debate' team."

For the last seven years, Jason has hosted and produced the Angry Planet podcast, which focuses on conflicts at home and abroad, and garners 100,000 downloads per month. He is also the author of a mystery novel set in the Holocaust, "Death in Twilight."
