Man, this thing looks ten years old, and it's really boring. (I didn't watch it through to the end. Too painful...) Not worth the download.

i admit the demo looks a bit 'old', but if you look on their site, you'll find a great 'movie' (e.g: RobotCarnival)... and it's quite good-looking ... :)

Definately worth the download, as are all first demos - to see what folks are doing on their first tries.

Resolution is too low (Got knows I complained about this already (: ) but there are some differences between this and other demos, such as: The mirrorblobs don't do the same thing as in Jizz, like the last 800 zillion mirroblobs. Ok, so they move sideways. at least they are DIFFERENT.
I was really anticipating to see a production from 'the other side of the earth' (Japan), so I watched Cybernet very carefully (so this is gonna be a long post :-)

True, the resolution is small, watching Cybernet on a 17" monitor is not pleasing because the pixels are huge :-) The code has some very minor bugs, specificaly some black flashing pixels in the white horizon of the first part, as well as the tunnel/tube part, where the wrapping texture is not connected very well and some black lines appear. The code runs fast, though. The effects are not original, but they have something different about them that I cannot explain with words.

The music is quite good, it has an oldskool feel to it. It would be alot better though, if it had higher quality samples, especially for the pads(strings) and hihats. Also, the music is absolutely monophonic. With a little stereo separation it would be super (Fast Tracker does that for breakfast). Some panning effects would be nice too.

The graphics are pretty simple as are the fonts. I can already hear some folks screaming that this is a coder production :-) Anyway, the graphics and colors need more work! Some fonts especially don't look good at all.

As for the design, there are transitions and there are interference effects (which I liked very much). If they were tighter to the music with better synchronisation, this prod would rock! I can see why this happened, obviously the musician is at the other side of the planet, so colaboration was not easy! :-) The various parts last long (and become boring) and they seem to follow the change of the module patterns, which is not very imaginative.

With all these problems I mentioned above, I *like* this prod. I like it because it's different as I was expecting. And I want to see more. Japanese guys have a future in the demoscene and I want to see it! If you take into account that this is a first production, then it rulez! :-)

thom: I know what you mean, but you could be a little more constructive, not to mention sensitive with people's first productions imho! :-)

Finally, why do you use lzh/lha packing? Is that popular in Japan? :-)
rulez added on the 2001-11-20 21:26:18 by moT moT
moT, afair the lha packer was made by a japanese. and if my memory serves me, there were some issues with oter packers and kanji characters or whatever they're called.. lha seems to understand japanese encoding more correctly or smth like that. 8}

Good first demo. Music isn't that bad and the demo has a good feeling of movement throughout (something which alot of more "respected" demos seem to lack completely)... It doesn't get that boring except in a few places and it atleast has a rather coherent color scheme (which is a bit too coderish tho)...

It also happens to run rather smoothly on a 200mhz machine which is also worth something:)

Funny, I didn't know that bhead! That explains everything, except perhaps why they haven't made a GUI version yet (WinLHA or something) :-)

We had a GUI for lzh/lha on Amiga - Lharca (:
moT, In Japan, "zip" or "lha" are mainly used.
I am using the comprehensive archiver called "ExpLzh" made in Japan.

broken download link =(
added on the 2001-11-22 01:02:10 by _ _
No, it's not broken. It's just those silly infoseek jerks that need the referer to be right in order for you to take the file. Feed the link to a good download manager like flashget and it will work.

This was great, though it seemed a bit old, but hey, its software rendered and its one of their first demos so its pretty cool.
We want more .jp demos :)

Good to see some movement in the japanese scene (seems to have had an impact that euro demo groups were annoyed by japanese computer magazines for years *g*), and quite a good first demo. As we MS orgas say:

Weitermachen!

A strange demo. I'm not sure if I should thumb it up or down... I'm sure I didn't figure something out in the design, so I'll give it a piggie. Hope to see more from you though :)

got: As far as that goes, I'd not given my views on your works yet.
Honestly, I don't like recent Eldorado's productions so much.
Those are sophisticated unnaturally, and are becoming devoid of personality.
When I first watched this Cybernet, I caught the enthusiasm of author on it.
Get a sense of yourself. I'm looking forward to your future releases.
Keep on keepin' on!

Has a really decent chrome metaball scene. Pretty enjoyable overall.
