Turn newsletters into podcasts with this feature from Beehiiv

How many newsletters do you subscribe to? How many of them do you actually read? If you’re anything like me, you’re probably familiar with the Gmail storage warning, and there’s a good chance that at least 50% of it is due to unopened newsletters.

People are busy, and reading newsletters isn’t always practical. You could be focused on work, commuting, and spending time with family. That’s why Beehiiv, the newsletter platform founded by early Morning Brew employees, has launched Audio Newsletters

For writers: Once you’ve finished your piece, you can navigate to the email settings tab and enable audio transcription with the press of a button. From there, you can pick from twelve different human-like voices to narrate your newsletter.

For readers: When you receive a newsletter, you’ll notice a new audio player sitting at the top of the email. All you have to do is click play and start listening to the newsletter. You can focus on whatever other tasks you have while digesting that newsletter you promised yourself you would read.

Alongside audio newsletters, Beehiiv also announced some other features designed to improve the newsletter experience for writers, such as click maps, which are a visual representation of what your readers are clicking on so you can see what’s working and what’s not.

This YC-backed startup wants to use AI to revolutionize healthcare

Longevity and well-being have a new advocate in Mito Health, a new health startup founded by Kenneth Lou, Tee-Ming Chew, Joel Kek, and Dr. Ryan Ware. After leaving their successful personal finance platform, Seedly, Lou, and Chew launched Mito Health to focus on proactive healthcare.

The problem with conventional healthcare? It's reactive. You’re either diagnosed with a disease or given vague advice from annual physicals that leave you scratching your head. Mito Health flips that script by using regular blood work from Labcorp centers across 47 states. They leverage AI and doctor insights to create highly personalized health plans, catching potential issues decades before they become problems.

Here's how it works: After scheduling a blood draw, you will get access to the Mito digital platform, where you can view your Mito biological age, detailed results, and a custom action plan within a week. This plan includes recommendations on supplements, exercise, nutrition, and sleep strategies, giving you clear steps to optimize your health. From there, you can opt-in to repeat testing if you want to focus on specific problem areas and to try interventions you mightn't have before.

The core of Mito Health's service is diagnostic testing, analyzing 67 biomarkers to assess risks for critical diseases and early aging. The team, driven by personal experiences of losing loved ones to diseases, is committed to helping everyone live not just longer but healthier lives, and that message has resonated as the team is right now going through YC’s summer batch.

Meta’s biggest AI model yetMeta’s biggest AI model yet

Earlier this year, Meta hinted at a significant development in AI: an open-source model that could rival the best from companies like OpenAI. Last week, Meta officially launched Llama 3.1, claiming it surpasses other leading models such as GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet in several benchmarks.

Llama 3.1, the largest open-source AI model to date, boasts 405 billion parameters and has shown superior performance compared to its competitors. The Llama-based Meta AI assistant is also expanding to more countries and languages and now includes a feature for generating images based on specific likenesses. CEO Mark Zuckerberg predicts Meta AI will become the most widely used assistant by the end of the year, overtaking ChatGPT.

Dictate your work to your computerDictate your work to your computer

TalkTastic just launched a context-aware AI voice keyboard app. It works by integrating across all your macOS apps, from Slack to Messages to your browser, to not only transcribe your speech with accuracy but refine and rewrite what you say based on your screen’s context.

So imagine you’re going about your day-to-day. With Talktastic, you’d hit the little microphone button and start dictating your response back to an investor in an email. The tool will write your reply while fixing any vocal tics, adjust words for tone, and spell the names of your investors correctly. Then hop over to Slack and shoot your coworker a DM and TalkTastic adjusts for that audience and context.
