Christine and The Queens continues to reinvent himself, now going by the name Rahim C Redcar, he’s released a baroque album to light up the clubs. He says that Hopecore was “created with tears, blood, and above all, an unshakable faith in the raw and pure expression of the soul. A call from the flesh, a prayer for justice and freedom," also calling it "prophetic and wild." And Rahim's words ring true, Hopecore is both avant-garde and inventive. Whilst he pushes boundaries, he also taps into pop's history for inspiration. For example, the track “ELEVATE“ may remind some listeners of Madonna's Erotica era. More generally, the music fits a vintage aesthetic, where Roland's Jupiter-6 synthesizer and effects like delay take center stage. As always, Rahim brings a palpable physicality to his music with really danceable tracks like "Red Birdman Emergency" and "Deep Holes", packed with rhythmic energy. Hopecore is the latest entry to a monumental body of work, a pop opera whose prologue was Redcar les adorables étoiles, released in 2022. The closing track, "OPERA – I UNDERSTAND," with its soaring piano, heart-wrenching synth layers, and convulsive choirs, captures the ambition of this extraordinary project. ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
