So what does a guy who spat out hardcore gangsta rhymes as a pre-teen do when he reaches legal drinking age? Apparently he gets even harder. On LIVIN' LEGEND, New Orleans Dirty South pioneer B.G. (aka B. Gizzle and formerly Baby Gangsta), spends much of his time warning anyone who might mess with him that he takes no guff (the terminology he uses to communicate this is, of course, a mite more colorful). On his first album since leaving his longtime label Cash Money under questionable circumstances, B.G.'s skills are undiminished, and he uses his prodigious talents to slam the company and anyone else who might doubt his talents. The rapper's trademark super-laid-back rhyming style (which makes even Snoop Dogg Sound hyperactive) carries a chilling sense of resignation that often communicates the hopelessness of ghetto life more effectively than other rappers' angry rants. In classic Dirty South gangsta style, B.G. addresses the untimely murder of friends, urban sexual politics, and various criminal activities with a lucid and often electrifying directness.
