Savoy Motel
Combining 21st century indie rock with the look and sound of '70s pop/rock, Savoy Motel is a band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. The group was founded by Jeffrey Novak, who was previously the founder and frontman of the band Cheap Time. While holing up at LBH Studios, Novak began working out new material with fellow Cheap Time alum Jessica McFarland. With Novak on bass and McFarland on drums (reinforced by her vintage Maestro Rhythm King drum machine), the two needed some guitar power, and they recruited Dillon Watson and Mimi Galbierz, both formerly with the group Heavy Cream. Watson played lead guitar, Galbierz picked up rhythm lines, and Savoy Motel had a stable lineup. McFarland and Galbierz were assigned lead vocal duties, with Novak adding the occasional vocal counterpoint. The quartet began writing and recording material almost immediately, and they claim to have recorded three albums' worth of songs before they made their live debut in early 2015. In November of that year, Savoy Motel released their first single, a limited-edition 7" pressing of the tunes "Hot One" and "Souvenir Shop Rock." Both songs would reappear on the band's self-titled debut album, released by the independent What's Yr Rupture label in the fall of 2016.
