Released in mid-1966, Blonde on Blonde, considered the first double album in rock history, is above all a new monument by Bob Dylan, who spent his first artistic decade questioning, revisiting and building on what he had destroyed. Recorded with Robbie Robertson, who had yet to form The Band, this seventh studio album is a marvelous patchwork that shakes folk, blues, country and rock 'n' roll in all directions. Delirious or introspective, caustic or moving, simple or complex, Zim does it all, sings it all. On "Visions Of Johanna," "I Want You," "Absolutely Sweet Marie," "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35," and the eleven poignant minutes of "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands," Dylan strings together pearls like so many miraculous little novels. The rock planet would (once again) never really be the same again. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
