Half-Congolese, half-Angolan, born in Belgium before relocating to South Africa, Petite Noir is a citizen of the world, the product of boundless cultural diversity. His music, like his roots, are the outcome of many different backgrounds. Borrowing from post-punk, electronica, and traditional African music, the artist has formed a unique style that he terms ‘noirwave’. Petite Noir, real name Yannick Llunga, travelled to London’s Box Ten Studios with Oly Bayston (Boxed In) and Leon Britchard (Ibibio) to develop La vie est belle /Life is Beautiful, an album that stands as a real alien object in today’s musical landscape. The young singer/producer appears is freed from any pre-existing generic shackles, the album encompassing a mélange of punk, sunny African rhythms and electronic sounds to achieve explosive - and unprecedented - results. © LG / Qobuz
