Il était le démon maléfique du rappeur le plus connu au monde. Slim Shady est mort, et voici son oraison funèbre. Eminem tue son fameux alias dans son douzième album, évidemment intitulé The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), lui offrant tout de même un baroud d’honneur, si provocateur, si cradingue et indigent qu’il dit une chose fondamentale : Slim Shady, le personnage, est totalement dépassé, ne fait plus rire grand-monde, et doit être mis à mort. C’est un positionnement extrêmement bien vu de la part d’Eminem, qui revient entre les lignes sur les très nombreuses polémiques qui ont parsemé sa carrière, sorte de mea culpa disant que l’heure n’est plus à la vanne, à la provocation presque gratuite, et à la haine. Cette dernière est ici plutôt dirigée contre ses confrères rappeurs qu’il clashe allègrement, dans le respect des codes du hip-hop américain. Côté production, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) trouve ici une suite à sa longue collaboration avec Luis Resto, qui l’épaule depuis l’album The Eminem Show, paru en 2002. Terminé les rafales de flow démonstratives. Eminem rappe avant tout bien et discursif, règle des comptes, les clôt même.
