so glad it helped. I too had to drive two hours. it's exhausting. don't be worried about the ride home too. he'll sleep. i was super stressed on that part as well. it def isn't cheap. in total mine cost 2700. which is insane. my local vet was only 800 but i felt the compassion from my ophthalmologist

I say take the eye. it is less than 3 months in a cone. The cone was the worst part for my chitter bitter. I cried for months debating rather i should take his eye or not. It was honestly one of the hardest things i've ever had to do. It's been a little over a month now and he's completely back to normal. He had the surgery 1 week before his 4th birthday. was in a cone for 12 days. the first 4 days was the recommended dose of antibiotics and pain meds. he slept a lot. but mostly hated his cone. he did want to scratch so it had to stay on. after the cone came off he was happy as a lark. Your kitty will adapt. promise.

I will say I spent a lot of money to go to an animal eye doctor. My chitter bitter had a silicone implant to keep the socket from sinking in. which is completely cosmetic. I do feel like a doctor like that would handle that type of surgery with care more so than just you everyday vet.

wish the best for you and your kitty. He'll still love you if you decide to remove it, that's what i was terrified of.

Enjoying his time out of his cone 💙 He gets his stitches out this Friday.

He had iris melanoma. They sure can. Most of the time it's older kitties.

Iris melanoma, or iris melanosis

you're the sweetest. I have been crushing them in a syringe and adding just a bit of water to make it liquid. he's takes that ok. he's picky about his food. the only table food he likes is chicken: and he's not big on treats or even wet food unless it's catnip flavor 😂 he's a stoner kitty

He was such a brave boy today. It's really amazing how well they handle such a major surgery. The doctor said I made the right decision. It was worse than he thought in there but it did not spread. We both had a long 12 hour day today. Very emotional for me. and i'm sure very painful for him. BUT I think he's handling it much better than me. it's been 10 hours since surgery, he finally ate, used the litter box and I let him have to cone off while i could watch him closely so he could give himself a bath. I think he liked that. (but he didn't like taking his pills i had to crush and syringe into his mouth.) Poor baby. just going to have to call him

Chitter bitter the brave pirate kitter.

Looks like we got it out just in time. The ophthalmologist said it was nearing the outside walls of the eye. He's not enjoying the cone but otherwise seems to be just tired. sure glad he's ok. still really hard to see him like that.
